Knicks Open To Trading Mitchell Robinson, Searching For Backup Bigs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:02 pm

The New York Knicks are believed to be open to trading away Mitchell Robinson at the trade deadline, sources tell The Athletic. Robinson is making $14.3 million this season and will earn $12.9 million next season. Given the way the Knicks have traded out future assets since their trade last June for Mikal Bridges, they are not expected to attach draft capital to clear Robinson.

Robinson underwent foot surgery in May and has yet to play this season. Robinson just began running and jumping and is not yet practicing with the Knicks.

The Knicks have been inquiring on backup big men who are available on the trade market. New York does not want to alter its starting lineup with Karl-Anthony Towns at center. Jericho Sims is considered the most likely player on the Knicks to get moved.

The Knicks are approximately $535,000 short of the second apron, a payroll threshold they cannot cross at any point this season, which limits their trade possibilities.
