CHA/NYK

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:07 pm

pretty simple trade

Josh Green
for
Mitchell Robinson

Knicks add a wing player that plays for a big man that doesn't. Save about $1.7M this year (minimal lux tax savings enough for a buyout candidate?)
Charlotte gets a big in their shallow frontcourt
investigate Adam Silver

Josh Green's contract is a year longer and ascending and Robinson's descending so I don't think NY would go for this without some compensation for taking on an extra year.

Nah we have to pay Mark soon.

No need to have big money invested in 2 centers.

Robinson comes off the books at the same time as Mark's next deal. he's a backup plan in case Mark can't stay on the floor

We have been among the top-three offenses all season, with multiple guys who can score and/or defend at a high level at the guard and forward positions. Accordingly, I can't emphasize enough how little we would want to add Josh Green (a good young prospect who likely would be completely wasted sitting on our bench). More to the point, we'd most likely be trading Robinson for an above-average shot blocker/rim-protector with some offensive talent. I.e., we need either Robinson back healthy, or we need somebody enough like him (albeit healthy) that Robinson is no longer missed.

The only way we'd do this trade is if a third team were involved and was willing to send us such a big back (in exchange for, say, Josh Green). And remember, we have very little else left currently in the form of assets, so Robinson would need to be the main piece we send out. Do I think Robinson is worth such a haul? Yes...if healthy...but he's not (and if he were healthy, we wouldn't be trading him). So, yeah, I don't see an easy path forward for the Knicks to get their last piece of the puzzle.

Fingers crossed that Robinson makes a miraculous recovery!

Robinson is really the only matching salary they have. Got to think the Knicks would want to use that on someone that fills a bigger need than Josh Green even if they have to attach value.

No thanks. Maybe offer that sort of thing for TimeLord?
We need to have rim protection. Ideally we'd need to trade Precious (who I like) for a 2nd Mitch
