Randle, McDaniels, NAW, and Miller? With picks?

How do we get far enough under the apron and still have pieces to trade for him?

Gonna try it out right now.

Simple! Place draft picks wherever they belong in your mind. We would also be 1st apron.

SAS OUT: Johnson, Paul, Harrison Ingram
SAS IN: Brandon Ingram, Joe Ingles

NOP OUT: Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones, JRE, Alvarado, BBJr
NOP IN: Randle, Keldon Johnson, (multiple picks)

PHO OUT: Kevin Durant
PHO IN: Jaden, Herb Jones, Chris Paul, NAW, Minott, Miller (Phoenix has a handful of cheap, expiring contracts they can dump)

MN OUT: Randle, Jaden, NAW, Ingles, Minott, Miller, picks
MN IN: Durant, JRE, Alvarado, BBJr, Harrison Ingram
(1st apron)

(GUARDS) Mike-Alvarado-RD-Ant-DD-BBJr-TSJ-Clark
(Forwards) Durant-NAZ-JRE-FA
(Bigs) Rudy-NAZ-FA-Garza

STARTING 5: Mike (20) Ant (32) NAZ (32) Durant (32) Rudy (30)
Alvarado-DD-BBJr-JRE-FA-FA
RD-Clark-Garza
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Long post got killed. Short version. With the current 8 rotation players all back in theory next season, Clark needing a roster spot (not two way eligibilile,) and Dilly/Shannon/Miller/Minott all on the books, are we really looking to draft two players who take roster spots 14 and 15?

I bet only one of Miller and Minott is around next year, if that. Also, the top 8 all returning isn't likely, one of the free agency trifecta probably won't be around.

As we get closer, I see us less likely to make any type of big move. Unfortunately, unless we get pulled in as a 3rd team, I think what we see is what we get

I only see two UFA, NAW & Jingles. Do you think Naz or Randle will decline their player options?

Both seem to be likely to do so, or at least that's the rumblings I've been hearing all season. They are both potential free agents though, hence being part of the trifecta.

I think we can convince Naz to opt in. We have his bird rights and can give him a better contract next time. Or in the alternative if he wants more security from injury we can have him opt out and get a smaller pay raise with 2 year deal with a player option second year. Either way Naz can be cost controlled next year if we need it. That means NAW and Randle are the wild cards. If Randle is still here after the deadline I expect him to opt in. NAW might be expensive, but we can always trade him for less money back 3 months later.

Minnesota would need to trade Randle first…probably for space and then trade McDaniels for Fox and other parts.

Timberwolves can’t combine Randle and McDaniels in a trade. I’m assuming Kings are interested in McDaniels.

Could they structure it as three separate 1-for-1 deals
Randle for Fox
McDaniels for Derozan
Dilly for Carter

I don’t think I’d do this. But I think it also fails because DD makes a few hundred more than Jaden. Probably fails for other reasons too.

I don’t think any team in the league has the space to absorb Randle right now.

I don't think this is likely, but I certainly wouldn't put it past Connelly to think he would look into something like that.

If we agree that Ant is not getting moved, then this requires a huge amount of sacrifice to accomplish. I would NOT be in favor of giving away multiple core pieces to bring in a 1.5 year rental who could jump ship to the Spurs afterward. Even if I knew he would stay and extend, that is a ton of money to tie up in the backcourt and if it fails we fail. Would you pay Randle, Jaden, DDV, and maybe Shannon or Dilly for Fox, because I cannot see that ending well. We need to be outside the 2nd apron to aggregate, then trade $34,848,340 to the Kings without taking any extra in (first apron,) and would be hard capped at the 2nd apron (making it hard to sign minimum guys to backfill the roster.) This isn’t just a bad idea by the FO, it is the worst possible idea at this point.

I don't see anything coming of it.

But it would be irresponsible to not at least explore options any time a star player becomes available.

No. Fox makes more than Randle. We would need to be under the 2nd apron to aggregate. Remember Rudy is trade ineligible because of his extension, and only Ant makes enough to acquire Fox directly. After dumping Randle for salary under the cap (or Jaden,) we then need to aggregate players to acquire Fox, and that is gonna cost at least DDV and Jaden, and we are hard capped under the 2nd apron because we aggregated, and we cannot take back more money then we send out because of the first apron, and we need to sign players to have 14 on the roster. It is not happening and should not happen.

I think it's also possible that this rumor got out, not because we are in the running for Fox himself, but we may help facilitate it. Here's an idea I came up with:

MIN Out: Randle
MIN In: Bruce Brown, Tre Jones

SAC Out: Fox, Carter
SAC In: Randle, Castle

SAS Out: Barnes, Jones, Castle
SAS In: Fox, Carter
*Spurs would also send picks to Sacramento to help facilitate it.

TOR Out: Brown
TOR In: Barnes

Obviously this makes us smaller, which is the biggest negative from this trade. But the money savings would lead to giving Reid big money as soon as possible.
