Re: Jaylen Brown Thread – Finals MVP, 2024
Let’s not kid ourselves. If we had the Hawks record, we would only have one all star. Brown is only there because the optics of NY, MIL having 2 but us only having one wouldn’t look good.
His assists are up because he has the ball in his hands more this year but it really just takes plays away from better playmakers. Brown isn’t a natural passer. At all. He makes some good reads, but they aren’t often timely ones. But yes, he is fearless going to the rim and that has been a nice break at times from the 3pt chucking.
What i really want to see is a 1st quarter where both Brown and Tatum score 10 and we bludgeon a team. They both never seem to be able to play off the other and both share success at the same time on the court. It’s such a frustrating thing to watch two guys who have been on the same team for like 8 year and when they share the court, it looks like it’s the first time they were on the same team.

What snubs do you put over him? I like half of what you say, and my inclination is to agree, but we DO have a better record and JB's part of the reason (not all). And I just cant think of (that m)any non-all stars I'd trade him for once you take $ out of the equation. And this is coming from a guy (me) that fake-traded him for a whole BUNCH of non all-stars over the course of several seasons, lol.

Is it not enough evidence that they both won a championship together?
If based on results, the Jays are a success.
1 championship
2 Finals appearance
5 ECF appearance
It was just last season that the Cs won 60 games or more since 2009.
Just because they don't bludgeon teams, that does not mean they're not successful as a duo.

ASG has always been about team winning success. So, the Celtics are 3rd in the league. And what haters want to forget is this: JB is contributing a lot to be the team we are.
Celtics played half of the season without KP and they were head to head with the Cavs.

Re: Jaylen Brown Thread – Finals MVP, 2024
By far the worst shooting season of his career.
eFG+ is currently at 94. Previous worst was rookie season at 99 (career eFG+ is 101).
TS+ is currently at 95. Previous worst was rookie season at 98 (career eFG+ is 100).
Guy shouldn't be taking these many inefficient shots considering the talent surrounding him and primary defensive attention remains with Tatum when they share the floor. Midrange is down and three-point shooting is worst of his career (worse than Smart's career 3FG%). Nice that he's getting to the line (career-best) though.
When people wonder why the Cs aren't shooting as well as last season, one of the main culprits would be JB who still has a huge share of shot attempts/opportunities.
EDIT: Anyway, postseason is where it's at. Let's see what they do then. They can get the 5th seed and still make the ECF imo.

He is taking the same shots he always took. Simply he is just missing them. He misses a lot open shots. People like you like narratives. He is taking one more shot than last year plating two minutes more. And Porz missed half of the season.ConstableGeneva wrote:By far the worst shooting season of his career.

His assists are up significantly, FT % in better than the last year.
He is going to be fine.

Worst shooting season of his career. Not narrative. It's a fact.
"He is going to be fine." is more narrative and a hope than fact. TBD.

Right now even JT has the worst FG% of his carrier. So what? And he is shooting the worst from the line also. Who cares?ConstableGeneva wrote:Stan34 wrote:He is taking the same shots he always took. Celtics has the third best record in the league despite those numbers. They lost a lot of stupid games not because of the shooting from those two. They didn't play with the right mindset. In the first 15/20 games of the season JB was shooting around 40% but Celtics won a lot.
We are not loosing cause JB hasn't been so efficient.

You accuse people of starting narratives and yet all you offer are your biased opinions.

I propose some Jaylen-specific questions:
1. Will he still be a Celtic in 5 years?
2. Will #7 go in the rafters for him?
3. Will he make the HOF?
I say
1. no
2. yes

Agreed on all your answers.
#1 has more to do with Cs financial situation (trade) and JB's desire to keep reaching new heights and challenging himself (ask for a trade or leave in FA).

Re: Jaylen Brown Thread – Finals MVP, 2024
JB and JT both shooting career lows. Seeing JT's numbers then seeing JB's even worse is real awkward for guys like me who just like JB better than JT lol.
I do believe that we're going to look better after the break top to bottom.
I think JB is struggling to incorporate a new skill and I'm hoping his brain catches up after the break, or at least come playoffs.
Big second half of the season coming for our guys.

I just don't understand how you are a Celtics fan and arguing against a Celtic making the all-star game. Only on this board...

A few months ago the GB was carrying on about how JB is the best player on the Celtics and now they think he's not an all star. Hard to keep up around here haha.

The problem isn’t the Celtics having all stars. I just think they picked the wrong guy.
Obviously they weren’t going to give it to White based on his recent cold stretch or Pritchard due to his lesser minutes and bench role but both of those guys have been more impactful than Brown by a good deal. Picking Brown is just a lazy example of rewarding gaudy counting stats but not really looking at the big picture. Brown just really hasn’t been good offensively or defensively this year.
He’s probably been out 5th most important player and that’s indicative of our record. If we are truly to be successful he needs to ply like the 2nd best which he certainly has the talent to do…

Agreed. When the going gets rough here, I think he's somewhat likely to get going. Totally open to being proved wrong.
Set your alarms for some time in 2040 for threads arguing that Jaylen doesn't "really" deserve his # going in the rafters and ofc how he might have been elected to and inducted into the HOF but he's not really a HOFer.
I say all of this fully aware of his warts. He drives me bananas sometimes. But he's one of the 24 best players in the league and please don't you dare start making The List of them!!
