Stewart suspended 1 game due to flagrant points; fined 50K due to hand gestures

I honestly hoped the punishments would be more severe. There's no way this causes Stew to change future behavior. It's just not enough.

Got off easy. The foul itself wasn't a basketball play, but not suspension worth. Making gun gestures leaving the arena was way over the top and I'm surprised he didn't get suspended for that.

Yeah, this feels light to me.
I'm not terribly hopeful that he's going to learn any kind of a lesson here (and at least publicly it doesn't seem the organization thinks he does need to learn one) but hey, maybe he will.

I must be in minority here. I think it’s no big deal and I’d rather have a reputation that we’re not scared and we’re glad to push back.
I’d error on the side of being too aggressive before I’d be on the other end of the spectrum with the overly nice AAU pleasantries.

The amount of lecturing and "he better clean up his act!" posts on RealGM and Reddit have been such an eye roll.

It’s crazy that they’re acting like he’s a dirty player like Grayson Allen. Stewart might do too much to let you know he’s there and he’s not going anywhere. He’s not going to injure anyone by what he does.
Players like Allen are sneaky whereas Stew is honest about who he is. There’s a big difference.

Nothing more than a bit of physical banter from one the league's more notable characters.

Appreciate your honesty. My thing with Stew is if it's a hard foul or a hustle play trying to steal a possession, sure go for it. But when he does unnecessary things like get tangled up on defensive rebounds when literally just standing between your man and the ball would suffice, CUT THAT ISH OUT!GreekAlex wrote:I must be in minority here. To me it's another turnover and I hate the fact we give away so many opportunities to the other team.
As far as the other stuff coming out from fellow Pistons fans, there's some on on this board that care what other teams' fans have to say and just wants them to speak nice about their little Pistons. Later for their pandering asses.

It's not about him being scared, it's about other teams knowing they can get him to spaz out.

He is going somewhere though, the locker room. I'm not upset about his physical play, I'm upset about acting like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

Physical play and hustle is outstanding, techs and suspensions not so much.
Do everything you can to win, but stay within parameters that contribute.
Techs and suspensions equal non-contribution.

This I'm OK with. Sticking up for your franchise guy is absolutely necessary.

You are completely missing the point. I'm not saying he's a dirty player specifically. I'm saying that he has become a liability which is worse. He is a player that can easily be manipulated by opposing teams into taking actions detrimental to his team winning. And those other teams know it.
If Stewart's antics didn't hurt anyone but himself then I honestly don't care. But that's just not the case. He needs to be better. He's needed to be better in this regard based on previous incidents. We've stated this in response to those incidents. But nothing has changed.

Just saw he's suspended for Isaiah Stewart bobblehead night.
Awesome.

I was very tempted to put "Isaiah Stupid" in the title of this thread... this stuff is just so unnecessary. He can be a hard-nosed defender without all of the extra-curriculars. Nobody awards points on the scoreboard for trying to prove how much more testosterone you have than your opponent.

I’m slow to think players can’t evolve or change. I’m sure he’ll learn from this.
He’s getting “Draymond missing a playoff game” level of flack for missing 12 minutes of a regular season game and getting a 1 game suspension.
Stewart averages 20 mpg and he’d already played 8 minutes in the game he was ejected from.
Paul Reed is solid and brings a different dynamic.
This level of outrage is bizarre and trying to extrapolate this behavior into the future is unhealthy.
“When the Pistons make the finals in 3 years and he pulls this type of stunt, that will be the reason we lose!”

1. You don't know how many minutes he might have played the rest of this game due to matchups. We had no answer for Siakham on the rest of the squad; including Paul Reed.
2. This is repeated behavior from him. Nobody would care if this was the first time (or likely even the second). Predicting future behavior when it's based on a pattern of prior behavior is completely reasonable.
3. There's been no evidence of any type of evolving going on here; at least in terms of being more in control. I'd argue you could say that he's evolving / changing to be more confrontational and reckless maybe?
He's tied for the league lead in flagrant fouls with 4 and second in the league in techs with 9 (one behind the leaders at 10). All in 20 minutes per game.

Re: Stewart suspended 1 game due to flagrant points; fined 50K due to hand gestures
This feels very "strawman" to me. There may be some outliers, but I haven't seen a lot of people making extreme comments. People aren't calling for his head. They are just saying he needs to clean it up. That's perfectly normal dialogue and discourse amongst a population of people who routinely talk about performance issues.GreekAlex wrote:Invictus88 wrote:GreekAlex wrote:

You don't like it? Fine. Disagree all you want. But acting like the "other side" is all sortsa crazy for criticizing on-the-court behavior, which lead directly to a suspension seems a bit disingenuous. Nobody is claiming our season is ruined. The sky isn't falling. The interwebs aren't exploding with negativity. And frankly it feels like the sort of argument somebody makes when they simply don't like what the other person has said. It's more of a personal attack than a rebuttal of any known facts. "I don't like what you said, so I'm going to villainize you for saying it".
Of course I'm sure that wasn't your intent.
