Don't think Minny can use TPE over the 2nd apron.

Sorry this is incorrect. They can only use TPE’s created this year. Plus Spotrac says yes. It specifically found a TPE for both 2.5 and 4.7 million. Not sure why to be honest, though I assume it somehow relates to the KAT or Kyle trades.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Amount: $4,000,000
Obtained: Troy Brown (Pistons)
Expires: 2/10/25

Amount: $2,537,040
Obtained: Wendell Moore (Pistons)
Expires: 7/7/25

Amount: $8,780,488
Obtained: Kyle Anderson (Warriors)
Expires: 7/7/25

Amount: $4,686,880
Obtained: Karl-Anthony Towns (Knicks)
Expires: 10/2/25

The 2.5 and 4.7 could be used because they were created in trades this year.

$8.8 can’t because it was from a S&T.

$4 can’t because it came from last year.

I’m still not sure. There are two usable TPE’s, but I’m not sure if it violates the “can’t take back more money” rule?

i tend to trust Spotrac, but when I run a deal trading a pick for Alverado and sliding him into a TPE, it treats the incoming salary as zero, and therefore legal. I understand TPE’s are IOU’s to complete past trades, but to me, adding a player, regardless of how you got him, would add salary. However, it looks like the CBA may have intentionally left this back door open, when it disregarded the use of TPE’s generated in other ways.

An exemption bypass normal rules. The bigger issue is how do we have two TPEs?

I showed you in the edit. One for Wendell Moore Jr, and one for KAT.
