One hope here in Portland I have is this great January by Scoot will convince Cronin to make that change with Simons. It's really really really time to rip this bandaid off and I hope the Blazers FO agrees with me.

I would love the Blazers to just pick the lane of youth and just post an O-fer with wins the rest of the way of the year, but even if they did that, that still probably leads them to the 6th or 7th seed at best. It wouldn't even shock me to see Portland do a 180 and make a star player move and resign Billups to a 4 year extension. Genuinely all options seem to be on the table for Cronin right now. He could trade Grant and Simons for a bag of chips or trade Ayton and a half-decade of firsts for Zion and I wouldn't be surprised either way.

It’s been rough in here today after last nights loss, all the activity is on the trade thread lol. I’m hopeful for a Simons trade but think we’ve got bigger problems. Mosley is a great coach but I think we are severely lacking qualified assistant coaches. Specifically an offensive minded coach on the staff to mold an offense around Paolo and Franz. I don’t know if a player trade will work until the offense has a blueprint to follow or vision. I’m feeling like that’s really hurting us because there’s just no way players forget how to play basketball or shoot the ball.

From a non-statistic related "vibes" check, your guys team has something very wrong. That's not a team that's happy or connected.

I would agree that Simons isn't the answer that's going to fix it. Simons is a really good player, but he's not a culture setter... that said, winning helps everything. If he can help peal off a few wins, that can help the vibes of the team alone. Which for the right price, might be worth the deal, then obviously fix the bigger problems.

The reality is, there is no "one move" that's going to fix the Magic from what I've seen of them, but that alone is not a reason to sit on your hands. Teams need to keep moving forward on all fronts, even through rough patches.

It’s been a brutal season of injuries on top of a rough schedule that had us playing more games than most other teams early on. Honestly these guys need the all-Star break like a month ago.

They are asked/expected to play defense at such a high level just to make up for the lack of offensive production. Some times a really good offense can be a great defense, but we don’t have that offensive ability so there’s no room for mistakes. When Paolo went down 5 games into the season something unexpected happened. Franz put the team on his back and really played great freed from Paolo’s ball domination. Sure it’s nothing major now, but could that become something later down the road we shall see.

Let's get a deal done!!! Last night, it looked like Orlando needs a center, as well. How about Ayton, as well as Simons?!?!?

You have any more flawed players to deal ? We can entertain you with Wendell Carter junior and Cole Anthony. Fine specimens in their own right.

You can't have ALL of the Centers, give us your broken part-timer :D

We'll give you our broken, minutes restricted but still awesomely impactful, multi-position DPOY candidate...

ORL sends: Isaac, Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, ORL 25 frp
POR sends: Robert Williams, Anfernee Simons

*Isaac's salary plummets to $15m next year and beyond, Cole has one more guaranteed year, Howard fits as a floor spacer, ORL frp is presently at #15

Would consider this if we took out Howard and move Isaac to a 3rd team for 2026 (or sooner) expirings

OKC should be involved in any trade we consider moving JI or KCP in. They are a win now team with boat loads of assets. Hell I think in recent mock drafts they have 3 first round picks this year and one of them likely a top 10.

If you don't want Howard (he was an add-on gift) or Isaac...even better:

ORL sends: Cole, Moe Wagner (expiring/TO), Gary Harris (expiring/TO), ORL 25 frp

...I think that's a far lesser haul, honestly. Isaac can transform a team's defensive identity as soon as he steps on the floor. But POR clears a lot of cap.

Personally I'd do harris/wagner/Cole + first for ant + 2 of Reath/jabari/banton

I don't see this front office trading TDS unless its a package for a big name. Hes one of the few productive bench players we have and a rookie under contract for three more years. Not untouchable but front office wont trade him easily. Especially with all the injuries we have. Having a forward ready to throw in the starting lineup is valuable. Anthony Black is more likely to be traded.

I think Simons would be a perfect fit for the Magic, but they just don't have the balls to do the trade.

Being cautious about overpaying for a player with pronounced flaws is not the same thing as lacking balls.

There is a reason not many teams seem to be interested in him. He is just a flat out negative NBA player his whole career. Maybe we can cover him better with Suggs and co and he becomes valuable but the chances are pretty high too, that his Acquisition ends up like like many of those onedimensional/flawed scroring guards before. LaVine, Schröder, Beal, DeRozan, Green, Russell, Murray, RJ... all those guys doesnt made there (new) teams better for a reason. Empty stats Ivey being hurt and defensive monster Thompson in is one of the reasons for Detroit becoming a winning team.
In Theory Simons helps us because he can do things we miss but stats dont lie, even more over such a large time. There is a good chancec in 2 years he is gone again because he isnt a winning player.

My biggest hope is that we're such a super oddly constructed team, that he might look a lot better with us than with anybody else, because the things we're bad at, we're so bad at that even a super flawed guy like him could have a bigger impact than with any other team in the league.

But if we add a defensive liability guard i would give up much more for Reaves than Simons as example.

Return to Orlando Magic
