Who is more likely to get dealt this summer: Curry or Embiid

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Sat Feb 1, 2025 12:55 am

I’ll offer this simple poll on 2 guys who are former MVPs, who will be top 2 paid guys next season and currently on 11th place teams respectively in their conference:

Who is more likely to get dealt this summer

Stephen Curry:
-2 years left on deal
-37.5 years old to start next season

Joel Embiid:
-3 years left plus player option left on deal
-31.5 years old to start next season

Neither is the answer, but I'm having a hard time seeing Embiid suitors out there wanting to trade any real assets.

76ers going to have to lie in that bed unless they are willing to take a poo poo platter back.

Joel 10 out of 10 to me. With the asterisk that Curry doesn’t ask to be traded to a better team.

I don’t see either traded in any very realistic scenario.

But few players in history have done what Curry has done for Golden State, few mean as much as he should be.

I hope Embiid, but the answer is probably neither.

Curry is most likely, but the Warriors actually could field a contender if they wanted to.
Embiid SHOULD be traded because someone will pony up major assets for him (even if they shouldn't), but I can't see Morey parting with Embiid unless he demands it, which he is not likely to do.

Embiid might be the most untradeable player in the league

Curry, there are no ifs and maybes about him, he's capable of turning any PO team into contender (think Minny, ORL, Rockets, etc..) low maintanace and short commitment.

Neither will get dealt for different reasons.

Steph is too valuable to get traded and Im not sure there's even a market for embiid.

But if both are available, it's much easier to trade steph.

Suns can be convinced to move Bradley Beal for him.

For sure, and it’s actually an interesting theoretical trade. Who should say no:

PHX: Embiid
PHI: Beal + 3 FRPs

I’m sure if Embiid was actually on the market maybe at least a few teams would talk themselves in to it. Maybe GS and PHX. But Embiid shouldn’t be tradeable with his health, money and age.

Curry. Only because he can probably play another 3 years at this level and another 5+ in decline and still be useful!

I mean it has to be Embiid. I don't think Curry is asking out and the Warriors are never ever trading him unless he does. It only takes one team willing to gamble on a player of Embiid's talent and there would definitely be at least one. And Philly is always willing to radically reconstruct their team.

I just can't see anyone trading for him with his obviously declining health .

GS isn't trading Curry. Philly would be more likely to trade Embiid but teams would be crazy to take him.

So neither.

Probably neither but I would be shocked if GS traded Steph, he’s the whole franchise and you can’t expect to get value at his age trading him to his chosen destination. Steph would have to have ask out

Are you serious?

I'm a Hornets fan and I would easily trade Mark Williams/picks for Embiid.

the Suns OBVIOUSLY do this, then just keep Embiid in bubble wrap as much as humanly possible and hope for the best.

They're already borrowing the present from their future, and this would continue that. I'm sure they'd comfortably rather have 30-50 games of Embiid during the regular season and some sporadic cameo playoff appearances than a hypothetical 82-game season from Beal (which isn't likely to happen either)

The upside is sneaking into the playoffs and then Embiid being lucky enough to play at 75% for an entire playoff run, and you take that chance all day every day if you're in Phoenix's do-or-die position with a 36yo KD and your team in absolute ruins once he's done.

Suns would do this all day. I'd much rather prefer a roll of the dice on a 30 yr old Embiid then a 38 yr old Jimmy Butler.

Does Philly do it? Probably would need Biid to be unavailable the rest of the season. Which is funny as I imagine alot of Philly fans want them to tank the season for a Flagg shot.
