Smart move for the Heat. MIA/MEM/WAS alt w/Butler Mil/Det
So the foundation I have is a roundabout of
Heat get Smart (2 years) to bolster their defense. Provide that Jimmy energy without the drama.
Griz get Brogdon, 1 SRP from Miami, PHX SRP from WAS. Get the much needed expiring, also better offensive option. Cap savings for not picking in the first, but having a decent spot in the second.
Wiz get 1 SRP Miami, Griz FRP (protected, but expected to be in the mid 20s) Rozier. Take a gamble! But also carry salary, maybe recoup value next year once the investigation is over. Not sure how that works if the league is suspending a player or tossing a player out of the league -- does the salary just come off the cap? Move up from PHX slot (mid second round) to Mem first round slot. Extra SRP for their troubles.
The bigger version:
Heat trade Butler, Love, Rozier, 2 SRP
Get Middleton, Smart, Bagley, Pat, Bucks FRP (2031 protected top 2, otherwise SRP 2031)
Four players who could all see time for the Heat. None lasting past that 2026 number they are fixated on. Of note, Bagley/Pat would match with Bruce Brown in Toronto salary-wise.
Grizzlies trade Smart, FRP for Brogdon, 2 SRP (via Miami)
Not sure if Immediate tax savings in a priority. If it is, then they can always spin on assets onto a contract. Overall, better offense/spacing in the backcourt. Expiring freeing up the books for next year.
Wizards trade Bagley, Brogdon, cut Baldwin, get Beachamp (okay now I am out of B names) Rozier, Fontecchio, A. Johnson, FRP(Memphis).
Figuring Wiz are spending one more year in the tank? Rozier is a risk because of the gambling things, but it's not clear if he actually is directly involved at all. I'd be surprised if he was. Never the less, at the moment he is going to be radioactive, but if the investigation clears him, next season he could be dealt just like Brogdon this year. The kids from the Bucks are mostly there to kick the tires. Fonteccio is actually useful and can provide more floor spacing options.
The FRP here is of course the prize for their troubles. (and sure, they could send out a SRP or two (quality dependent) and just deal 1:1 with Memphis)
Bucks trade Middleton, PatCo, BroLo, A Johnson, Beauchamp. FRP (2031, top 2 protected, otherwise SRP). Get Butler, Love, Sasser
It's a gamble, but you get Giannis his best shot at his second ring. Love isn't the interior presence that Lopez is, but he is at least smart at drawing charges and can always provide spacing/rebounding off the bench. Also will help keep Jimmy cheerful.
Pistons trade Fontecchio and Sasser for Brook Lopez
Rationale: Spacing at the center position while having a defensive/shot blocking presence. Losing the wing (fontecchio) is tough, but at least you have other players who can fill that role. Also other options on the market if needed.
Overall notes: I think the pick compensation could use work, but some of these new machinations are just over my head. The trade machine (Fanspo) is a bit wonky so for some reason when I had Johnson out and Sasser in everything worked, but taking Johnson out in any capacity (sasser or no sasser) threw a wrench. I always prefer to not displace as many guys as possible just because I feel it helps the realism. What I really hope to accomplish here is paint a good concept and then discuss the fine point details.

Yeah, I don't see Memphis doing either of these deals but especially not one where they give a first to turn Smart into Brogdon.

Laughably bad for Milwaukee. I think they end up with Butler but for far far less than the ideas posted here.

This would have to be part one of others for Detroit, as it'd seriously unbalance our roster (we'd be up to 4 centers, and lose our backup 4, and lose our backup 1).

Why?
The rumor is that Memphis is shopping Smart because they need to free cap space. trading down from a late FRP (you guys are really good this year) to 2 SRP (decent variance) might wind up neutral value.
What do you expect to be the return for Smart?

Mmm, yea that's not correct value.
He is your 3rd point guard (less MPG than Pippen)
he averages 9 points, 2 boards, 3 assists, 2 TO's.
Has a "week to week" injury
https://www.si.com/nba/grizzlies/news/memphis-grizzlies-make-concerning-injury-announcement-on-marcus-smart-01jjt2m3atn8
32% shooter from 3 during time in Memphis.
He brings positive intangibles, but with his contract... he is neutral value at best. In a trade, Memphis may have to take something back (smaller 3 year contract) or bring back a lesser player (like a player who won't play) on an EC if they want to get a SRP for him.

Why would Milwaukee fo this trade? It doesn't help them at all. Butler is a nagging 35 year old pre- madonna

I mean the seller is selling for a reason. Because they were able to fill from within and because they need the salary reduction for next season. That puts them at a disadvantage. With Smart's current injury and salary - no one NEEDS to add him.
Who do you think would be a buyer with an EC for Smart?
