Re: 2024-25 Season Discussion and Speculation Part III
They've been rumored to be pursuing Butler in an Ingram/ Butler swap! BUT.................... Also in a possible Ingram fo Capella Bogi trade which I'd think would be much more likely. I wonder though if we could or should consider getting involved with either scenario to try and get other pieces back. IF a Pels/ Hawks trade, Somehow getting Nance Jr/ Matthews (as an Allen stopgap replacement IF we intend to trade Allen for Bidatze) Or if a Pels/ Heat trade, Maybe a Burks/ Keshad Johnson/ Green/ Boston Jr return??

how bout no. This team has trouble sharing the ball enough as it is.Slim Charless wrote:bwgood77 wrote:Slim Charless wrote:
Speaking of trades and quality big men. Would anyone object to a Beal for Embiid trade in the summer? Obviously we'd need to kick in all 3 of our picks and maybe Dunn to make up the difference but salary wise that works.
Would Philly do it? Would Beal?I know Ishbia would as it gets him yet another star here. I would MUCH rather roll the dice on a 30yr old Embiid then paying the same amout for the privilege of maxing a 37 yr old Jimmy Butler....
I assume you are listening to that tread value pod? Because I am and they JUST mentioned that briefly around the 55-56 minute mark. I don't think Philly would and if they would, that would probably mean they know something that should deter us from them. After this year Embiid makes 55/60/65/70 and never plays. He can't really move very well any more.
I haven't even seen him play though, but I don't know enough. I mean we are screwed anyway and if people don't think Beal makes us much better, and since we are screwed for years regardless after the next two or so, we could hope he gets a lot better for a year next year or something and we could win a championship. Ishbia would do it for sure.
I mean, that's a gamble worth taking. Even for Dunn and all the picks.
***IF*** Ishbia wants to continue down this foolishly scorched earth plan of his with our team, at least do it on a younger player-who has won an MVP. As for PG, we could sign Lonzo or Fultz I guess.....to make a true "All Injury Team" in the valley.
We'd have a b/u center ready in Nick for the MANY missed games Embiid will have as well. Would need to get rid of Nurk somehow and without our picks to bribe someone, we would have to trade him for another team's probably even crappier deal.
Philly probably doesn't do it but I guess if Embiid asked out and to come here, they'd make the move. FTR.....Biid, Booker and KD all played on that US gold medal team, so there's that.

So what are realistic trades for a decent PF which the team needs and not Butler, not Bogdanovic ? Royce is so inconsistent, pretty average D. Someone good for him and a pick or two ?

I have not been impressed by Royce O’Neal at all. Would love to find a longer version of him like a Jayden McDaniels mold.

It's just really hard due to our inability to aggregate, and having to match dollar for dollar in trades, But IF adding a 1st along to O'neales' 9.3 million, the names that I'd look at most would be And then you add in the fact that he's an undersized ( at 6'4) SF with long term money, and even with adding one of our mediocre least favorable late 1sts, you'd have to be taking back somewhat worse players or a cumulative of lesser players and maybe a 2nd coming back. But the options would be severely limited because so many teams even contenders are looking to reduce cap/long-term salary commitment just try to and get under the 1st or 2nd apron, and rebuilding teams wouldn't really want him either.
There just wouldn't be much of a market for him at all given his conditions! But still, if we're talking realistic for O'neale, the best slightly plausible options might just be:
1- OKC Thunder
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Kenrich Williams/ Jaylin Williams/ OKC 25' 2nd (58th pick).
** Thunder might only do this to try and maximize contending and picking up another 1st might swing this deal to actually happen.
2- Dallas Mavericks
O'neale/ CLE 25' 1st for Powell/Exum/Prosper/ DAL 25' 2nd (47th pick).
3- Chicago Bulls
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Jalen Smith/ SAC 25' 2nd (46th pick).
4- Houston Rockets
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Landale/ OKC 25' 2nd (58th pick).
5- Detroit Pistons
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Beasley/ Reed/ Toronto 25' 2nd (36th pick).
6- Sacramento Kings
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Lyles/ rights to Crowder/ SAC 26' 2nd.
7- Philadelphia 76ers-
O'neale/CLE 27' 1st for Martin/ Bona/ Nance.
** Philly might not care to do this if they're rebuilding! But O'neale is slightly better than Martin for only 1 million more and the same contract length. So the first would end up being for Adem Bona and Pete Nance.
8- San Antonio Spurs
O'neale/ CLE 27' 1st for Champagnie/ Mamukashavili/ Bassey/ CHI 25' 2nd (39th pick).
Again, no really great options. just too many restrictions and difficulties involved. But if moving O'neale and keeping Allen, these are the most likely scenarios that we could pull off. The picks (2nds ) would be incredibly important so we could actually add a much bigger, longer more athletic, and talented SF/PF option that is cost-controlled and could replace O'neale!

Well, the other Mcdaniels (Jalen) from Charlotte that we had an interest in a while back just happens to be an unrestricted free agent for the vet minimum, but could we get him to actually play defense like his brother? Also, Greg Brown, Alex Fudge, and Leaky Black too all on the vet min unrestricted pool!

Can’t just keep attaching picks to every trade to offload average at best players.
It’s not worth it

I know man, I'm just responding to Sunsbgs' post about what's out there if trying to move O'neale under those conditions with his situation contractually and what it'd likely cost to move him. I didn't say we should or I'd personally like to. I'd prefer to use our 1st and 2nd to actually draft more young athletic players like we have with Dunn and Ighodaro. But then I don't run the franchise, and much like everyone else, I don't have any say in what Ishbia will do.
But my gut tells me he's going to move all three picks in some trade we'll all lament just to be able to say they made a move or too.
I'd rather be posting some of my very detailed draft reports on the college basketball/ draft prospect thread, but it seems that Ishbia is hellbent on flushing our future down the tubes!

A completely horrible trade for the Suns, Great for the Lakers (typical of a Lakers' schill) and the Hawks, and mediocre for the Wizards. Pincus should really just stick to cap premises and stay away from trades altogether.

Why would the Warriors give up Wiggins for Butler? Sounds like a pretty terrible trade.
Besides Riley would be fired if he comes back with just an expiring contract.
