Speculation he told the team he didn't like something and would be using his opt out after next season and would force himself to a preferred team. Dallas didn't want to lose whatever leverage it had so acted before news of Luka's availability got out.

No they couldn't. AD is better value than anything Raptors got. AD is even more valuable than Scottie at this age.

But Mavs could have got much better value than that.

Bruhhh...The Mavs really traded their golden boy like that!? I'm assuming he asked for a trade specifically to LA or else this doesn't happen. I don't even remember hearing rumblings of Luka being unhappy in Dallas. Which team gets better from this trade? Lakers or Mavs?
