My conspiracy theory is that the new Mavs owners wanted to trade him before the supermax because they are cheap and the league promised them something* to give him to the Lakers for free.

*Still workshopping what the something might be.

Funny how throughout NBA history, every time there is a trade that smells like corruption, it's the Lakers who are benefitting. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

I agree but long term this resets everything for them. They also still have 5 days til the deadline to make additional moves for right now.

Luka's whistle in a Lakers jersey is going to be a war crime.

The optics of this are just so **** bad. At least they had to give up the farm for AD, and Gasol wasn't really a superstar level player. Absolutely unheard of to trade a 25-year old, Top-5 player in the league for this kind of paltry return. League just feels like it's trolling the other 29 fanbases at this point.

Luka is 25 years old lmao. Who gives a flying **** if this makes them better this season? They just got an MVP-level franchise player for the next decade and they’re in LA. They’re going to get whatever they want to fill out a title contender moving forward.

We're going to hear from the Mavs in the coming days how Luka wanted out and he specifically would only re-up with Los Angeles.
