Re: Luka?? To LA????
Dallas insider Marc Stein:
Luka Dončić did NOT request a trade, league sources tell @TheSteinLine .
The Mavericks did this on their own accord, getting back Anthony Davis but only one future first-round pick from the Lakers in 2029 for a 25-year-old regarded as a future MVP.
Luka is no longer eligible for his $345m 5-year supermax since he got traded

Hard to believe it's real. I think something might come out later.

It's a very strange deal for the Mavericks.
Gafford and PJ Washington will both need to get out of AD's way inside.

This is a legit stunner. Somehow the Lakers always find a way to get their next superstar.

When I think of Mark Cuban, I remember that Russ Hanneman, the character in Silicon Valley, was based on him.

Just one question.
How much do the Dallas Mavericks hate Luka Doncic?

Cuban is no longer the majority owner. Still, this trade probably ruins his legacy quite a bit for giving up that stake.

If Dallas follows up by trading Lively for a really good forward in his prime, like maybe Trey Murphy, they might actually be a contender in the short term. Kyrie, Klay, Murphy, PJ, Davis is a pretty good lineup and they have Dinwiddie, Grimes, Naji Marshall and Gafford on the second unit.
That said, trading 25-year-old Luka for 31-year-old Davis is still a crime. Gives me Webber for Richmond vibes.

The only conclusion I've reached is that the Lakers knew LeBron and AD weren't enough. They likely weren't coming out of the West as assembled. So, they decided to grab the next Laker superstar. They got the best player, and that player at 25 is six years younger than who they traded.
If Klutch indicates LeBron wants out, the Lakers can expertly build around Luka. It looks like a genius move to me. They don't care how LeBron takes it.

LeBron wanted to sign Luka to his shoe company. When Kyrie was trying to recruit LeBron to come Dallas to play with himself and Luka in Dallas , Rich Paul told Windhorst that Luka and Kyrie can come to LA to play with LeBron.

Dallas better hold on to Lively.
Although I'm Big Dan Gafford fan #1, I think Derrick Lively II is better. He's younger, a better defender, and a far better rebounder. The one argument against keeping Lively is his next contract might be steep.

Re: Luka?? To LA????
I missed your last sentence. Yes. Trading a 25-year-old Doncic for a 30-something with a history of injuries does remind one of the Webber trade.nate33 wrote:If Dallas follows up by trading Lively for a really good forward in his prime, like maybe Trey Murphy, they might actually be a contender in the short term. Why would Dallas trade a Top 3 player to the Lakers for a broken-down PF who is merely good not great and a draft pick 5 yrs down the road?
Makes NO sense.
Like, how? why? and what kind of pressures were put on Dallas by the league to make this nonsense happen.
NBA needs to realize the first words I see when I scroll on twitter:
Rigged.
Ratings down, now they can inflate LA before they sign their next tv deal coming up.
Elite Player's/Worst and only trades of elite mega players always goes to LA.
Nobody, anywhere, thinks this is clean.
Even the press statements are asinine. Dallas statement appears to be made while people were laughing, and covering their mouths, LA statement is comically stupid, "We thought Doncic would help make us competitive going forward." No ---- you did. A blind, 3 days dead, born w/o a brain corpse would know that.

Re: Luka?? To LA????
The weirdest part of it to me beyond the fact that its obviously rigged, is that any sane team would bring in a third team w/picks because LA doesn't have the assets to make a trade for an elite young player, period, literally everyone looking to make tear down, rebuild trades was ignoring LA because they have nothing of value, nothing. There's a reason people were laughing at LA being active at the deadline, now they move a 31 year old broken down carcass for a 25 year old superstar and MVP candidate. They get a full reboot period, for nothing of sane value. Dallas basically handed them 5 billion dollars, and asked for a nice lunch in exchange.
It's annoying to listen to Simmons podcast, and they keep treating it as #1. A normal trade and #2 a trade that can't be nulled by the commissioner for the good of the league, if you have a mentally damaged owner or GM that can be exploited like this, it rigs the league, the fact that it happens AGAIN, and of course it goes to the only city and team it literally ALWAYS goes too? Why would anyone anywhere believe this is on the up and up, and if it is, then the league just needs to fold because noone anywhere believes this is anything other than corrupting of the league. Expect the Doncic is a piece of ---- stories trying to sell us that it isn't as 1,000,000,000-1 one side horror show once in a century level trade.

But we knew that trade was on the up and up because he went to the Kings. So it proved we were run by morons, which, anyone whod been watching since 1980 already knew. The fact that this is the third time the Lakers have stolen a megastar from the "sucker" at the table in less than two decades? It's beyond suspicious, and even if found to be clean, and simply a trade where the golden franchise of the NBA exploited some dumb--- Maga rubes in Texas, it still had to be blocked because look at twitter, look at the fans around the league. NONE of them feel this is clean. They all feel this league is dirty as hell, that clearly Donaghy has taken over Commish duties, or his connects have pictures of the new Dallas ownership at some P Diddy party etc.
And this trade craters Dallas, and the coming Dallas/San Antonio rivalry, for a decade. They now will suck and have nothing to trade to do a reboot. They are totally ----ed after being basically contenders to 2035.
There's no angle at which this benefits anyone other than LA, and the tv revenue in the next cable deal, no angle at which it makes any sense, we already know if a player wanted out, and he didnt apparently, you basically leak the info to get the best deal possible, or increase the size of the trade to 3+ to get the pieces you need because LA didn't have any of the pieces you need to make such a deal possible.
