Butler to Dallas, Klay to Detroit, Miami/Dallas/Detroit

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Sun Feb 2, 2025 4:49 pm

I’ll offer this idea for Dallas to land Jimmy

To Dallas (Trades Thompson, Washington, Gafford, 2 1sts)
-Jimmy Butler (1 year, $48.8 million plus P.O.)

To Detroit (Trades Fontecchio, 2nds)
-Klay Thompson (3 years, $50 million)

To Miami (Trades Butler, waives someone)
-2028 New York 2nd via Detroit
-2029 Los Angeles 1st via Dallas
-2030 Minnesota 2nd via Detroit
-2031 Dallas 1st
-PJ Washington (2 years, $29.6 million)
-Daniel Gafford (2 years, $27.8 million)
-Simone Fontecchio (2 years, $16 million)

Why?
-Dallas runs with Irving, Butler, Marshall, Davis, Lively as long term starting 5.
-Detroit adds a veteran SG.
-Miami gets picks and deals ending in 2026 along with significantly lowering its tax bill.

3 firsts? Uh yeah that's a hard no.

That's a completely insane valuation for present day Jimmy even if he wasn't bitching his way out of Miami

Also Charlotte owns that 2027 1st so you can't even trade that

Yeah, I would think one first should do it. Certainly not 3. I also question whether Detroit wants to participate.

We already have 3 point shooters who don’t create or defend well.

On the face of it the deal isn’t too bad, but if we’re leveraging our cap space to improve the team I’d rather get a second playmaker or an upgrade at forward. They might baulk at the financial commitment to Klay too.

If we've got a second trade lined up to get a secondary creator for one of our shooters, I'd be down with taking Klay for mostly space.

The trade also works financially with either Sasser or Moore going out from DET, and I assume that DAL would prefer a small expiring salary to a F (Fontecchio) who probably doesn't play for them

But the major problem with the OP is the picks; I agree with those who say DAL should be sending 1 FRP, not 3
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Sure, take out the 2027 1st. 2 1sts + 2 2nds + rotational players who all expire 2026. Seems to check all the boxes for Miami.
