I repeat: this ish feels like Private Equity arrived in Dallas and the quality went out the window in favor of a pretty balance sheet. The next thing we'll hear is the money saved in tax payments has been dumped into Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy.

I really really really hope the Mavs locker room is in this mode:

I have to wonder if this was a Mavs front office move. The reports say the tension has been there for a few years.

The only reason you trade Luka is if there’s massive issues behind the scenes. We don’t need to see post-trade leaks to know that.

Agreed. My guess is with the new ownership the FO was finally able to convince a trade. The whole way this went down sounds like a FO thing, they knew their target which was Ad and didn't even shop Luka around.

I’m guessing maybe OKC or Boston? Not sure what other team would decline besides Denver/Bucks

Possibly Sacramento involving a trade for Fox.

The idea of giving up on a 25 year old who just took you to the NBA Finals, and is dropping 28/8/7 is insane lol. Guaranteed he will get a new work ethic next to Lebron.

Shaq played at center, a position where in fact not being in shape and be overweight can actually be an advantage.
That's not even remotely close to be comparable to the fitness and conditioning you need to play at point guard in NBA.

He's also 25, so that's easily fixed. In LA versus Dallas he'll shed that weight fast. Honestly a scary though, imagine an in-shape Luka :o

Well no, Shaq was a major defensive liability and his rebounding was meh. Being fat definitely hurts centers. Luka's game is based on skill, and he's a Top 3 player now at 25.

But again, conditioning is the easiest thing to fix, the Mavs are crazy to trade it for that

Not saying he's an alcoholic or that his recent weight gain has to do with alcohol specifically, but Doncic is definitely known among Euro basketball journos to be a drinker. Loves his beer and vodka. He's known to spend his summers drinking and smoking hookahs.

I think that's fine considering the stereotype of the modern NBA player is a stoner who lives at the strip club  NBA culture and street culture go hand in hand, so don't know how much of an issue this really is when the majority of the league are pot heads and go to the club literally every night and get wasted.

The propaganda on this trade is almost as bad as the actual trade. Just taking the low hanging fruit from the finals narrative because they know it's still fresh and just running with it, even though that fat kid with the hookah dragged you to the finals.

Good try Adam Silver, no ones buying the spin on this one (except Laker fans(

The point wasn't about bad habits or lack of discipline though, alcohol makes you fat. Doncic's conditioning issues likely have more to do with alcohol than anything else.

Reports are he's also been known to kick puppies.

Lol at you guys buying Mavs PR.

The real reason this happened: we didn't want to supermax Luka because he would have demanded out shortly thereafter due to us not having the resources to contend with him, but his contract was more tradable now.

They definitely should've gone more of a picks route, but I understand why they want to continue to compete, especially after hurting their fanbase like this.

I’m not sure if everyone understands, trading Luka at age 25 after a final appearance is an issue yes, but to trade him to the Lakers without calling other teams is why people are mad. This all feels like a gift to the Lakers to get viewership.

The Mavs GM wanted AD for a while, so they had no need to shop him

Also Jokic got his ass kicked in the WCF by the Lakers and understood he needed to get in shape.

Luka doesn't seems to care after being destroyed by Boston, that's kind of a redflag.

Zion is damn near 1000 lbs. Don't see NOP looking trade him.

Not a valid excuse. Luka's numbers have been astounding both in/off-season. Not to mention he has the IT factor. AD is no chop liver either. As a Lakers fan, this doesn't sit right with me either.

However, this trade rounds out the Mavs roster very well; granted at the expense of their future.

Whereas, I am not happy having to lose AD this year particularly. This trade is wrong for both fan bases/teams on many levels. Unless there is more to follow.

Every team in the NBA has their own wishlist of players but it doesn’t mean you overpay for them.

luka has no "clear behavioral and mentality based issues", because has a couple too many pounds starting the season or complains to the refs? common man. you are reaching.. the guy isnt even in his prime. finley would have taken that beer from anybody doing an interview, thats just NBA policy

When Luka was 15, he was playing against high school players. He was in high school age junior competitions in Spain at that time, not "dominating against grown men."

As to the main topic at hand, this is the most absurdly ridiculous trade in US sports history. The NBA is basically at a WWE level of actual sports competition at this point.

The Lakers need to trade for Zion. If LeBron can't fix these guys, nobody can!

Cuban and the Mavs are morons.

Davis is nice but an aging #2 option not a #1.
Cuban sold the majority of the team, he doesn't control it or have the say he did before

Personally, I would want a guy on my team who is arguably the third-best player in the league despite having an easily-fixed flaw. Should we get Luka a chef or should we sell him for a soon-to-be 32-year-old? A very tough decision.
