Simple Pacers Magic deal Mathurin for Black

Post#1 » by 8305 » Sun Feb 2, 2025 4:40 pm

Magic get Mathurin
Pacers get Black and the better of Magic 2026 FRP picks
Magic logic, get a significant shooting upgrade which they badly need.
Pacer logic, Mathurin is generally a less effective player than any of Shephard, Neismith and Nembhard. Pacers get an extra year on Blacks rookie deal to fix his shot. I’m viewing Mathurin as the more valuable player evening the deal with the draft pick

Black is a career 43/33/69 shooter and Mathurin is only a 45/35/83 shooter. I don’t see a significant shooting upgrade happening here.

While I think Mathurin MAY be better, it’s not so much that the defensive prowess and rookie contract year shouldn’t make up for. Definitely can’t see Orlando considering including a 1st to make this swap, if they do at all.

Pacers need a 2026 FRP. Like Scoot, I doubt this exchange brings one, but I'd keep talking.

Make it 2025 Denvers FRP and consider it done. Anthony Black is not a good fit for this team but could be for others.

Would Toppin or Nesmith interest you more than Mathurin?

I see Nesmith as more valuable than Mathurin. Am I missing something?

No, but pacers will trade a good player to make room to resign Turner. A deal that brings a 2026 FRP would have to be considered.

Orlando already has SG's. the need is a PG. this doesnt make sense.

Fwiw, I was going off a report that said every team in the NBA that’s viewed as a buyer had contacted the Pacers about Mathurin. Also noticed that the Magic Board was pretty down on AB.

Perhaps a small trade of two-way players then as pacers of 2 pgs there.

C'mon now. Mathurin is putting up nearly double the attempts from 2P, 3P and the FT line per minute while maintaining an incrementally higher percentage. Volume matters. Mathurin is taking much higher degree of difficulty shots and is still more efficient.

Yeah not a fan of either guy particularly but very clearly mathurin is a much better shooter, one guy just only shoots when he's wide open so the % is close and the other guy is probably a bit too willing to get them up lol

I mean, I’ll let yall tell me my guy is better than I think, but it’s not like Mathurin is a lights out shooter. At least, not yet.

I don't think he is either, but think Black is a bad shooter

I like the thought of Black at SF for the Pacers. He could be a good fit with his defense and pass first mentality. I think Mathurin could add a lot to Magic with his scoring ability, This could be a win for both teams. I don't think the first from Orlando makes sense but I think the rest has potential
