MOD REMINDER: Please don't use this last trade to make crappy posts

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Sun Feb 2, 2025 2:10 pm

I know, the deal was absurd. Espn's other reporters having to say Shams wasn't hacked says it all.

So, go ahead and post your holy cow that is awful takes in that thread. But please don't drag down the quality of the board with a bunch of clearly lopsided offers elsewhere because hey it could happen, look at what did. Or if you really must do so, make the posts so *your* team is the one that gets the worst of it.

And to those who say this is why any deal should be posted, you aren't wrong. We do pretty much allow any deal. But we also know that one* fan in each fan base that posts only unrealistic pipe dreams favoring his team, and those posts just generally suck. Don't do it.

Thanks so much!

Spoiler:
*If you don't know that fan, and instead find that every other fan posts deals ripping off your team, you are that fan

In other words, just because Nico Harrison lost his mind doesn't mean we get to.

We should make a thread to post equivalent trades just to get it out of our system.

Am I suggesting this because I want to post a Jokic for Markkanen + a pick trade?

Maybe.

I'm also growing towards the trade is awful but not as awful as it's being made out. What player in the league is better than AD that provides what he does?

I get the initial shock/disgust, but the talent downgrade for the next 2-3 years isn't THAT crazy. What makes it bad is how young Luka is, but in 2024-25 is Luka way better than AD? Anyone that says he is would be underrating AD IMO.

It’s not just the trade itself that is bizarre, it is the way the trade went down. Luka was out anyway. There was no need for this degree of secrecy. Meanwhile no bidding war as most teams didn’t no he was available. The Lakers still have picks, Reaves, Kneckt, ect… The Mavs left a lot of meat on the Lakers bone. Also, If AD was the best centerpiece I can respect that. But what about Ginnias? I have to wonder if the Bucks would have moved him for 25 year old Luka. The roads not traveled are crazy here and Mavs fans are the ones who have to live with this.

As for the rule that you have to list reasons for why each team makes a trade, you can pretty much just make stuff up at this point.

Example: Dallas makes this trade because Luka is too fat and because Dallas management has always admired players with unibrows.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

It's just as reasonable as whatever explanation anyone could come up with for the actual trade.

Really sucks how many of you think its cool to intentionally post stupid stuff and feel a desperate need to advocate for it. I get trolling can be fun for some people I guess, but the GB is just right over there and its entire existence is dedicated to that. Go get your cool credit and cheap pops there.

This forum has always been about serious(not overly serious, but not homer fantasy nonsense) discussion. If that doesn't interest you, cool, but have the common decency then to leave it for those it does interest.

Wilt Chamberlain was traded to the Lakers for Jerry Chambers, Archie Clark and Darrall Imhoff
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was traded to the Lakers for Junior Bridgeman, Dave Meyers, Elmore Smith and Brian Winters.
Why not let people have some fun with some terrible trade ideas so long as it is to the Lakers?
