The Mavs could have set themselves up for the next decade with the haul they could have gotten if they opened up a bidding war for Luka. It's hard for me to have respect for players who let their body go like Luka and Zion do. It's why I've defended Embiid against various criticisms. Defending him when people say he can't perform in the playoffs, or is a loser. I say it's hard to be great when you're always playing at 50% health. But one area I can't defend him and it's what pisses me off about him more than anything is he never keeps in shape. The guy is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and if he misses basketball for two weeks it looks like he hasn't played in a year. He puts on 20 pounds, he's slow, he's tired. It's just so unacceptable. That's one thing you can control, your weight. You can't control when you come down awkwardly and roll your ankle, you can't control when you catch an elbow to the face. But he does himself no favors by being in terrible shape. And I'm guessing, also having a terrible diet. You can't gain weight as quickly as he does without eating like crap.

It drives me nuts when I see these athletes just neglect the one thing they have direct control of. And all it takes is a little bit of dedication and willpower. Eating a freaking salad once in a while. Keep up your cardio. No professional athlete should be overweight and out of shape. That's the bare minimum of what they should be asked to do.

Maybe the Mavs go for it this year... Doubt Kyrie opts out of they didn't extend him. So maybe they feel they can say least get a pick or 2 for him.

If they truly opened things up for AD at 32, he could probably gather 2-3 and a young player. .
