i know this will be heresy here but giannis and AD are basically a wash. like id rather have giannis but in any given year and depending on roster makeup AD could be better

both insanely good.
id take giannis handily.
however in some situations ADs range and IQ and non league leading usage may have better value to a team as it relates to winning

for example.... doncic is a better player and talent than AD. yet i believe that there is 100% absolutely no doubt that this year as constructed dallas will be immediately better. with kyrie they dont need another ball dominator and they massively improved defensively with the move. perhaps for dame hed improve with a partner like AD. stuff like this matters

Yeah, if this was truly about winning immediately and needing a two way PF, then they should have offered the Bucks Luka, Lively, Mavs 25 1st, and Mavs 31 1st for Giannis and filler.

I'm with you on this. Was just at the gym trying to explain to folks why I think Dallas is actually better today after this trade. I still would have wanted a lot more for Luka, though.

Luka at his best has an argument for best player in the world. Hes on that list with Giannis and Jokic. Hes also 25. Unless there is some crazy report coming out about Luka there is simply no defending any of this. Im not trying to overreact but the way this went down should get the mavs gm fired on the spot. Its one of the worst trades of all time in any sport. And of course its to the Lakers Who now have a franchise reset again.

But why didn’t they also get the Lakers 2031 1st? And pick swaps? And those two young white guys on the Lakers? Why did the Mavs send out a 2nd?

They traded a top five player without making him available to more than two teams and then didn’t extract all possible assets in the trade. And their GM actually made multiple great trades in the last couple years that helped get them to the finals. So all of a sudden he had some brain trauma and did this deal?

If i want to win now I would rather have AD then Luka. I know that i am in minority (big time) here but I really like this trade for Mavs. We will see.

I think there's a few reasons to think this trade is bad for the Mavs that are all getting jumbled together. Did the Mavs maximize value? Probably not, I don't know if it would've nixed the deal cap wise but assuming it didn't I think the Mavs probably could've gotten Dalton Knecht and they should've gotten the Lakers other available 1st round pick. There's the age component, Davis is about to turn 32 and while I think his game may age fairly well he has his own very spotty injury history.

But I think that's all relatively minor reasons for why this trade is viewed so negatively. I think the main reason is for most people Luka >>> AD, regardless of age. And you clearly feel very differently and I'm somewhere in the middle about that question

not blackout drunk. found out a couple hours ago that one of my 10 employees was brain dead and theyre pulling the plug in a couple hours. went in a couple days ago for seizures. sedated him. never woke up.
