Dallas didn’t trap Luka in Charlotte or Washington, they sent him to LAL. If this is revenge, it wasn’t exactly mission accomplished. Also I know they say dig two graves, but the only thing that got buried here is the Mavs franchise. This is the kind of return that only gets accomplished in dark rooms with money changing hands and something very much unrelated to basketball behind it.

I entertain a lot of conspiracies, and I won't deny what you say is true. But it's not my leading suspicion at this stage. If its all rigged behind that scenes, that would be deeply disappointing.

The loop being closed and the lack of additional assets suggests the Mavs wanted Luka in LAL for a sub optimal return. Explain a competing theory for why the Mavs go along with it?

Because their ownership and GM are morons. Seems to be the simplest answer.

1. Jimmy Butler, for obvious reasons
2a. Zach LaVine
2b. DeMarr DeRozan, assuming they do deal Fox.
2c. Brandon Ingram
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.

My theory probably makes less sense than yours, but I feel there was a lot of animosity between Luka and ownership. What if his difference was political? No clue I'm just spitballing. The Mavericks owners are major Trump donors. It would be poetic in a sense that the team would trade him away to remove his ability at getting the supermax, while also trading him to a market where he will have to pay a very high state income tax (i.e. you like liberalism - here you go buddy!)

That's my dumb theory.

Nah, they dont deserve to be fixed. **** the franchise. Imagine how much money they save if they gift away all their good players for g-leaguers? They could turn into the wizards of the south

Is staying below the tax a requirement for Dallas moving forward?

If not, then I could see Butler to Dallas

I hear that's fair value

I am sorry

In the future, just FYI, green text or /s usually makes it easier for people to tell it's a joke (especially if they don't have great eyesight lol).

Even if true, add Kneckt, Reaves, and another first to the demand. Lakers might counter removing one of the 3 and Dallas gains the other 2. It is more than the destination that is suspicious, it is the return from LAL.

I'm putting this blame on the owners until I see more evidence. Incompetence usually drips from the top.
In the scenario I'm outlining, if ownership has already overridden the interest of GM and coach, maybe he went full throttle and did the trade himself as an owner (in which case he wouldn't have known to ask for those other items)

Yup but Lavine now makes a lot of sense too. Adding Butler is fine but their shooting is pretty bad then.

Lavine would fit perfect in his ideal role as a #3 and he’s a great shooter.

I’m a huge Butler fan but Lavine actually makes more sense. He’s younger, cheaper, and a MUCH better shooter.

Lively
AD
Naji
Lavine
Kyrie

That’s a pretty good team.
