The only nuance here, which does matter, is that we don't have to worry about losing it any of the subsequent years.

Horrendous trade.

For a guy who values picks ... he sure has a funny way of showing it. Not pushing for picks when he should have (e.g. OKC) and carelessly throwing in 2nd rounders like they're candy (e.g. this trade, Spurs).

I think the other GM fakes some hesitation and he throws it in to sweeten the pot. 'Oh I can just go buy another one' ... but yet he doesn't.

ChiTownHero1992 wrote:lmao at everyone yelling about needing more picks (no one wanted Zach) i'm A-OK with this trade! Cut the salary in half with Tre's expiring

Not even close my friend.

Zach salary: $$43,031,940
Tre salary: $9,104,167

I think AK is notorious for not valuing picks.

Oh I agree, I sarcastically make that comment for a guy who puts unrealistic price tags on his own players to be traded... only to hand them out like candy.

We could of had 2 picks for Drummond.
Supposedly 1/2 for Caruso ...

But hey, we get our pick, which was like at 97% likely we'd retain it this year... back. Woo.

Another awful AK trade. Who could’ve seen that coming?
I'm not here to argue.

Not a bad return considering what has been reported.
I'm just glad is finally done, now do Vuc, Craig and hopefully Coby.
I don't know why Sacramento though this was a good idea but I won't complain.
Zach was a pro in his time here so I wish him the best.

I at time feel like the last lone Zach supporter, 20+ ppg 60%+ TS% guards simply don't grow on trees.

Love Zach. Hate this trade.

I'm upset, but I'll calm down once Guru explains how this is actually another AKME masterclass.

We couldn't even get expirings. Just 1 for 9M. Huerter and Collins will both be here next year.

Sitting on it for some time here and I strongly dislike this trade.

The "best" thing we got back was a higher chance of keeping our own pick - which we probably could have kept while keeping Zach.

All the players we got back suck. And Huerter and Collins aren't even expiring. We'll have $34m tied to garbage instead of $43m tied to a good player.

Bulls front office looks like they did some tricky cap stuff with the trade to generate a giant Trade Exception, which is only interesting if they use it, which is unlikely because most trade exceptions don't get used.

Getting Flagg will still be a huge longshot. The worst teams are just too bad. I don't think any other player in this draft will be better than Zach.

Feels like a trade for the sake of making a trade.

We got worse in the short term, and this trade alone does nothing to improve our future outlook.

I have to imagine we trade Vuc to GS for Looney and Schroder tomorrow. GS will offer us some 2nd rounders, but we'll insist on sending them a 2nd rounder instead.

Can someone explain to me how the 27 million trade exception works ? How would we use it ?

Turrible. Like, what's the point?

Dunno if AKME checked the standings but SA wasn't getting that pick this year.

Who is Tre Jones?

He is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

This feels like mission accomplished to me. Last summer we’d have had to attach a first to dump Zach. 8 months later, we get back a pick that would’ve likely conveyed to SAS in the lottery sometime in the next three seasons. Is it unsatisfying that it’s our own pick? Absolutely. But that’s a sin of a previous trade, not this one.

If theres any positive spin -

While none of the 3 guys we got have any name recognition, theyve all flashed in some capacity at their best

Huerter was a solid 12-15PPG scorer in ATL and his first year in Sac. Its fallen apart for him this year as he doesnt get consistent minutes
Collins was somid the past 2 years before Wemby got their and SA shook up their team a bit
Tre Jones is someone I’ve liked in the past and was solid the past 2 years (12ppg/6ast) before CP3 got there

Wish we got more draft capital for sure and hope these guys can help us tank this year before maybe being solid bench guys next year

I was close in the Around the NBA thread:

Muzbar wrote:Here's a quick trade I threw together:

Bulls get: Huerter, Johnson, Collins and 2 FRPs (one of those being their own FRP back)

Spurs get: Fox, Duarte and Craig

Kings get Zach and Castle

That works out perfect financially and no teams need to release anyone beforehand.

I like mine better...
