I have to tip my hat to the Spurs, just a fantastic and consistent franchise. They acquired Fox by giving up NONE of their core pieces.
Why so serious?

Seems like a solid backup PG.

Best asset of the players for sure.

I think Huerter, if he returns to form shooting wise, is easily the best player of the bunch.

exactly. were the bulls ever going to tank for 3 straight seasons? of course not. effectively it's getting out of a bad contract a year early AND getting a mid-1st (could be lotto). both good things. also good that lavine is gone next year to improve draft position because team wasn't going anywhere next year either. essentially nothing bad at all here. makes no damn difference that the draft pick technically still belonged to the bulls. that thing was as good as gone

Dunno if AKME checked the standings but SA wasn't getting that pick this year.

I mean, the Bulls are STILL sitting in the final play-in spot, it very much could have gone to the Spurs.

Exactly.

Zach was traded for basically a mid future 1st.

Where we are we could drop in the lottery and would have had to send the pick to Spurs.

Folks need to see this as the Bulls getting a 1st.

We will know tank this and next season. We get Dybantsa or Peterson and we have our franchise player.

A better front office would mean the Bulls would have their own pick PLUS a mid first round pick (what they'd get for Zach) to work with going forward.

Instead they gave a first for DDR and made a trade to fix that mistake.

Yeah it's hard not to like that team on paper. I think they'll need a true PG though, because Monk is not that.

The mainly annoying thing in this… Is this should’ve been done before the 23 deadline (when we picked up Beverley), after we lost that first play-in to Miami… or maybe even a summer prior after the pathetic 4-1 showing in Milwaukee.

You could’ve started pruning the tree. Not extended the coach, extended the player, and expired all assets.

AK needs to put up a 3hr MasterClass on how to lose a decade in NBA relevance.

Let’s be clear- the rebuild clock starts this summer. We have no extra picks to work with. No incoming prospects like a Shai or even f’ing Max Christie. Not even a Lauri/Zach/Dunn starter pack. It’s just a hodge-podge farm of busts.

If we get Flag, then hurrah. But you’ve got low odds as a 7-9 lottery slot, so it’s all luck.

It's all about narratives. That's it, that's literally it.

Surely Jalen Smith gets the starting nod with Collins backing him up.

True, but you just saw what we traded Zach for. I don't think they have a problem offloading Vuc if they really want to. We may just not like the return.

I would think the minutes would be something like:

C: Collins 32 / Smith 16
PF: Matas 30 / Smith 18

I'd be happy with that.

Surely they'll start Smith, they've barely played Smith at PF, I doubt they'll start now.

I guess I'd just be okay with Matas getting more minutes. It's difficult to give Smith that many minutes at center when Matas can't really play that position. Smith could start over Collins but I think Collins still needs to play a majority of the center minutes. It also depends if we get another big in a separate trade.

The exception can be used to trade for a player or multiple players with salaries adding up to that amount without adding to their cap and luxury-tax liabilities.

Can anyone confirm that the "Bulls 2nd round pick" that has been sent to the Kings was the Spurs owned Bulls 2nd?

If so, the Bulls still have a 2nd round pick this year.

My thoughts are that this is incomplete. The Bulls have picked a lane. Now we have role players that fit the roster and Coby becomes the go-to scorer. Coby is better as a rhythm guy who scores more efficiently when he's not competing for touches. Ironically, if the Bulls make no moves they are better on paper since they now have a legit 4 and a guy in Huerter who, if he returns to form, provides scoring. They really need to trade Vucevic now to truly tank. If they don't then this is...retooling with better use of cap space as opposed to tearing it down.

Okay, I’m not exactly understanding what all the fuss is about. What exactly were we supposed to be getting for LaVine?

From my vantage point, we broke up Zach’s salary into shorter, smaller and more moveable contracts and got control of our pick back. Were we supposed to be achieving more than that in trading LaVine?

they gave up substantial draft capital for a smaller, less efficient lavine. they are the losers in this
