1. Sign Luka to supermax (Luka is not turning that down whether he wants to stay or not)
2. Make him available and shop him around
3. Profit.
It's difficult to **** this up and they did it spectacularly.

Re: Holy Mother of... Luka to Lakers, AD to Dallas
Anyone think this is also picking Kyrie over Luka? When the GM talked about the summer being problematic, I think they figured as things are, they'd end up losing Kyrie and not have any chance of replacing his quality. And having Luka alone and what ever other assets they have makes it too hard to have a title competing team. With Kyrie, AD and their supporting cast now, they figure they still can try and make a run, and in a few years do a rebuild.

They should have been more concerned about keeping Luka than keeping Kyrie.

That said, the Luka Doncic situation behind the scenes is…complicated.
Also, the Mavs won’t be that much worse off. Yeah they got massacred today by Cleveland but once AD and Christie report, I think they’ll still be a good team.
As for Luka the player, he’s obviously insanely talented but his flaws are ones that make it difficult to win with him. His conditioning catches up to him every season.
Moving off of him? Weird but ok
GO TO ALL TEAMS
Hey OKC what would u give me? Talking to only Lakers is so malpractice and shady af

Re: Holy Mother of... Luka to Lakers, AD to Dallas
The Lakers literally get a HOFer gifted to them every decade.
80s: Kareem
90s/00s: Shaq
00s: Gasol
10s: LeBron/AD
20s: Luka (I'm expecting a follow-up trade for Giannis shortly)
This league is a **** joke.

As a Mavs fan, I'm definitely cheesed, pist, off. A 4/5 rotation of lively/AD/Gafford is absolutely crazy tho. Still not something I would've done. I'm not mad at the return, just mad the Mavs traded Luka.

yeah I want to see those three playing on the same team that should be fun basketball. Huge loss though no doubt.

I want the mavs to win just to make the gm look like a genius because right now he looks like a moron. I feel bad for him. Also feel bad for mavs fans. Reminds me of when we traded Carter.

Even if you don’t think you can win with Luka because of his conditioning (but like, just get more strict with him, damn), you HAVE to get a king’s ransom in return. Mavs got the kind of return you would get for trading Jaylen Brown or something.
They got the damaged goods kawhi package of demar, yak and a 1st

How much does one have to get paid to abandon all pride? I like to think if I was in his shoes, I would have resigned after ownership demanded I trade Luka. He's already a millionare and financially set for life. This move also tanks his career prospects in the NBA as only the Lakers would be willing to hire him in a backroom role after this ****, but even that is unlikely as Luka would surely veto the move.

Re: Holy Mother of... Luka to Lakers, AD to Dallas
The press conference sure didn't do the GM any favors. He really sounds like he doesn't think they can win with Luka. Luka isn't like DD with history of shrinking in the playoffs. He averages the second most PPG behind MJ. He has already amassed plenty of iconic games/moments in the playoffs already and made the Finals/WCF. Just watching the intensity he plays with he may be one of the most competitive players in the league.
So they trade this stud and the reasons are "culture" and to "win now." Regarding culture nothing major has ever leaked other then he's fat, may like alcohol and is a huge whiner on court. Other mega talents have issues and it is swept under the rug.
Regarding Nico "Win Now" comments is just insane to me. The Mavs are 2 games above 500 and they gave away one of the young faces of the league to maybe get better next 2.5 seasons?

Re: Holy Mother of... Luka to Lakers, AD to Dallas
Worst trade I've ever seen.
Luka is a once in a generation type of player...a guy that a franchise may only get once every 30 years. He likely ends up being a top 15-20 player of all-time when it's all said and done.
He's already had a hall of fame career before the age of 25...leading the Mavs to a conference finals and the finals with a weak supporting cast. He is one of the few players that elevates his game in the playoffs and is a straight up killer.
To make matters worse the Mavs didn't consult any other team!!?? WTF??
I am still mind boggled.

This is WAY WORSE.
Carter demanded a trade, had had bad injury issues and deliberately tanked his trade value, acted like an unprofessional prick.
Luka has been an MVP candidate every year, just led Dallas to the finals, and had no desire to leave.
Moreover, Luka is just way better than prime VC. I'd say prime VC is more similar to a Ja Morant whereas Luka would be more similar to Kobe, KG or Duncan.

I can only imagine if Luka was offered to OKC, what they might offer. i can see they pulling something like Jalen Williams + Dort + Caruzo + tons of picks. Or other package centered on Chet. I am quite sure 20 teams could provide a better package. But no, lets trade to Los Angeles **** Lakers
100%!!!!
OKC would have given up Jalen Williams, another good prospect and a ton of picks.
Doncic and Shai would win multiple chips.

Re: Holy Mother of... Luka to Lakers, AD to Dallas
Never seen ownership/management betray a fanbase like this. Spineless as hell. Insane logic trying to justify this trade. Basketball and salary cap reasons it makes little sense if any. The most logical thing is that their goofy owners are indeed laying the foundation to find a way to move to Vegas in the near future.
