Nico himself said in the press interview earlier today that he contacted no other teams after that story was released. I assume it's a fake story like stories that suddenly appeared courtesy of the Mavs' PR department sliming Luka's character to try to make the trade look more believable and Nico accidentally revealed that in the presser

This is a report by Sam Amick that the Mavs contacted one more team to propose a Luka trade 2 weeks ago.

Which was the other team?
Bucks for Giannis? My guess is that one.
What you guys think?

Apparently it was the Bucks & it was a firm no from them.

I think the Mavs will have the best defense in the league. They will be huge playing PJ Washington-Davis-Gafford/Lively and can afford to play extremely physical because of their big man depth. I think AD cutting off drives up at the level and Gafford/Lively behind him will be insane. I think they will generate a ton of turnovers, second chance points, and give up very few second chance points themselves.

In addition to this, they have a ton of shooting and spacing between Kyrie, Klay, Washington, Christie, and Grimes. Both Kyrie and AD can score in the middle of the floor as well.

They are one piece away from really having everything they need. They need another perimeter ball handler who can create advantages against set half court defenses. Dinwiddie/Hardy/Exum are not good enough.

I am really surprised they weren’t able to get Reaves back. If they did, this trade makes a lot more sense although still would be dumb. That being said, I think they will be able to find a player who can fit this mold with their depth and draft capital.

If I were the Mavs I would take a swing at an Ingram or a Jimmy. Honestly, even a player like Jordan Poole would really make them formidable.

Do you know what would have put them in a better portion to be title contenders? Not trading Luka Doncic

It's all intentional. This is what they've been planning for 3 weeks.

- Fake news about 270lbs
- Fake news about another team
- Fake news about Lebron not knowing anything, there's just as much proof that he knows

Classic PR jamming tactic. Flood the market with controversy so that it gets more views than the actual Press Conference where they have to tell the truth.

They knew the trade doesn't make sense and planned a campaign to combat the blowback.

It's so obvious because it's being run exactly like a Nike campaign would. I just can't believe they did this to Mavs fans I really don't like the Mavs but this is criminal do you have any idea what I would be doing if they traded James Harden the season after he almost beat the Warriors for a 36 year old injury prone almost-superstar?

This is a travesty, I can't believe we're just going to move on from this and carry on playing. On a basketball playground, this is the point at which the cheating warrants a stoppage of play and at least a talk. I would say fire Harrison but that dude is going to secretly get paid SO WELL for this after he resigns you have no idea.

They have to void this trade. NBA fans have to run onto the court at a rate the security can't handle at games. Seriously I have always fought the notion that the NBA is rigged and fixed and the referees are all bought but come on. This I can't deny. This is unfathomably corrupt or incompetent.

So just looking at how high he valued AD, it was probably for some aging superstar like KD or Curry.

I am pretty sure other 28 teams have ZERO desire to deal with Mavs right now..and this could extend beyond this trade deadline
Plus imagine offers they will get for any player in the next few years..**** as hell..I think Mavs shot themselves in both legs..even if team relocates to Vegas soon..it will be **** there..just another Vegas acquisition nothing more..

The Bucks get to be competitive with LeBron while the Lakers get a decent player to pair with Luka. It won't be easy for the Lakers to part with LeBron who's still only 40 and Giannis has some question marks around intangibles, but I think they pull the trigger.

I'd also call to inquire if the Spurs might be willing to part with Wemby for a package of Rui, Reaves, and some SRPs, but I don't think the Spurs are ready to make that move just yet as they're still evaluating Wemby's potential (but I think with time, they'll realize he has some red flags and they'll come calling Pelinka when that happens).

Looks like they were targeting a PF/C from a big market team. Not many available better than AD so my guess is Giannis.

They asked Spurs for Vassell and they turned them down

Jazz9 wrote:How did the Mavs GM not get another 1st and Reaves out of Luka though?

Because he was trying to help out his friend. He recieved orders from the owners to trade Luka so he called up his buddy Rob and asked if he wanted Luka. Rob obviously said yes, and then they came up with a trade scenario where the Lakers would give up minimal assets, leaving them with pieces to build around Luka.

This trade represented a level of collusion/corruption never before seen in the NBA.
