Lakers and Mavs keep trading with Brooklyn and Phoenix

Post#1 » by NYG » Mon Feb 3, 2025 3:37 am

Brooklyn Nets get:
Dalton Knecht
Dereck Lively
Rui Hachimura
Grayson Allen
Gabe Vincent
2025 Cavaliers First Round Draft Pick (via Suns)
2031 Unprotected Lakers First Round Draft Pick

Gives: Nic Claxton and Cam Johnson

Why: This is collectively a really solid return for a rebuilding squad. They downgrade from Claxton and Cam to Lively and Knecht while taking on some money, but they get 2 picks for doing so.

===

Dallas Mavericks get:
Cam Johnson

Gives: Dereck Lively, P.J. Washington and Dante Exum

Why: Cam is a solid fit alongside Kyrie/Klay/AD/Gafford and they would still have some assets for another smaller follow-up deal.

===

Los Angeles Lakers get:
Nic Claxton

Gives: Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht and 2031 1st

Why: Claxton would be a great fit defensively and give the Lakers some much needed front court help.

===

Phoenix Suns get:
P.J. Washington

Gives: Grayson Allen and 2025 Cavs 1st

Why: The Suns would be getting a really good fit alongside KD/Booker with what Washington provides while still having enough for a Nurkic follow-up deal.

Nice job. I like it for all teams. I genuinely believe Phoenix, LA, and Dallas all get better from this trade. And the Nets honestly may even improve with four solid role players useful as trade chips as well as multiple picks. This trade should probably happen in real life, it just makes too much sense for all teams involved assuming the salaries exchanged all fall within the rules

I really don't think PJ Washington is worth Allen AND a first.

PJ has much more value than Allen and the last pick of the first round...(the Mavs gave a very lightly protected pick, and since then his value has increased), I personally think the Mavs need a playmaker/scorer of good level to alleviate the enormous loss of Doncic...not an improvement of Klay who we already paid....(I also think that Lively is probably more valuable than Cam)..he is considered one of the 5/7 best selections in your draft, he is still on a rookie contract .CJonhson doesn't have that kind of value for me...I would go for C.White(Bulls) or even B.Ingram

Is it just me or is this unbelievably bad for the Lakers where they're trading 3 rotation players for just 1 and giving up Knecht and a FRP for the privilege?

Is Claxton really that good? Like he's listed at 215 lbs, I get he's a lob threat, and he's a "rim protector" but is he really worth this much? both trade value-wise and salary wise?

Honestly, the Lakers would probably prefer a Poetl or Kessler to deal with bruising centers. Like what are the Lakers gonna do with Jokic, Hartenstein, Adams, JJJ, Gobert, Zubac etc?

If it's a center from the Nets, why not Day'ron Sharpe?

Derrick Lively has more value on court than Claxton and CamJo combined, him being injury prune hurts his value bit there is no way Dallas are trading him and PJ for CamJo, I am biased, but I have PJ as a better player than CamJo.
Mavs need a shot creator, they have enough front court help.

Luka Vincent Connect Knecht 1st round unprotected for Giannis
so these players are reserved for that

Wouldn't come close to paying that price for Cam. I get he's put up numbers on a bad team. And if Brooklyn can get that value from a team, they absolutely should. But I fail to see how this makes Dallas better.

I'm not sure Cam is any better than PJ, don't like it for Dallas at all.

This is awful for Dallas. Washington and cam is a toss up to me, adding lively is an insult.

And kings could swoop in here and offer TPE and spurs 27 1st to brooklyn who probably would prefer the cap savings over allen.

Yea. I see lakers going the stop gap solution for a big. High end target Robert Williams. Maybe even bring back Dwight for 8 minutes a night.

Dallas is just stealing value here.

It seems the Nets are getting paid for Claxton while giving Cam away for free.

Rough for phx. Phx isn’t trading picks to upgrade Allen who is a great player. They are going to use their draft picks to move Nurk or Beal.. or just draft and add some more youth around Book.

You think the price for Claxton is Lively/Knecht/2 1sts?

Claxton isnt even worth Lively
