So Deni brings back more picks than Luka??? This is rigged as hell. You're worried about his conditioning so you trade for someone who is nicknamed "Street Clothes Davis" ????

Gafford and PJ Washington will both need to get out of AD's way inside.
AD prefers to play the 4, so an AD/Gafford front court is going to be formidable, but the Lakers will clearly need to make another trade for another Center, and Dallas will need some offensive firepower.

A 2025 second. A 2031 first and I think 3 pick sawps.
Do they go in and try to get a center ? So they try and get under the tax?
We could kelber for JV
We could use our TPE to take Gabe for stuff
Could we get that 31 that second some pick swaps idk. But these moves help get them under the tax and gets the. A center.
Interesting, did not see this coming. I think that the Mavs were looking at the supermax and said, nope. That they didn't get other offers is just weird.
I guess they wanted to do a "minor" rebuild. They get to move Irving back to PG, Thompson back to SG? or do they start Christie/Thompson. And Davis gets to slide back to PF where he likes to play. They get more "certainty around the cap going forward. I think this new cap with the aprons is really affecting how FOs look at giving out the supermax.
Irving/Dinwiddie
Thompson/Christie
Marshall/Edwards
Davis/Washington
Gafford/Lively
From LAs perspective. They get a PG and don't seem to mind paying the supermax. But they have a gaping hole at C. You have to think there is another trade coming (or they think Wood is going to get healthy

Dončić/Vincent
Reaves/Knecht
Finney-Smith/Reddish
James/Hachimura
Kleber/Hayes

Mavs majority owned by Adelson family (Sands gambling empire). Lakers as serious contenders bring in more income to Sands than Mavs as serious contenders. Later dramatized in the movie The House Always Wins.

I think the Mavs are actually really set up here. Luka wasn't really playing and they were kind of treading play in water this does a lot for them. Christes gonna play and upgrade that defence he might even be the 6th or 7th dude. AD is gonna be a huge boost for them. Like more than you'd think. Their style is gonna change and this is gonna be interesting they might be a legit team at least this year. If AD and Kyrie get along.
I Think that the Lakers would be smart if they went after ayton. The wiz could help
Lakers get Ayton
Blazers get: Gabe, Vanderbilt, Johnny Davis, redish 2031 first from Lakers, 3 pick sawps with the Lakers
Wiz get : kleber, 2025 protected seconds from Atlanta from port, 2025 second from the Lakers, 2026 protected seconds from mem from port and our own 2029 weird swapped second from port.
Lakers get a center that playing really well.
Blazers get some young talent and a first and 3 swaps
We take some salary for 4 seconds. Not good ones but it's something for basically nothing in Johnny Davis ! You can just cut kelber and eat that money next year or stretch it if you want to.

The funniest part of this is DAL sending LAL a 2025 2nd rounder. Like just incase it wasn't lopsided enough, please also take our pick.

Haven't been this paranoid about the NBA being rigged since Patrick Ewing got given to the Knicks. Only this time I don't think it's the league that rigged it, I think it's the owners themselves and something non-NBA related is involved.

Definitely the trade that came to mind for me.
Or it would be like trading Googs with a first in 5 years for an in his prime Chris Webber.

needs an investigation, how come LA always gets superstars for nothing?
Kareem, Magic, Gasol... thank god they got the brakes on Paul back in the day.
Having said that, without moving Labron, this is not going to work, 2 ball hogs who play slow and don't play defense? They won't pass the first round. Mark it.

This made the Richmond/Thorpe deal all that much more ridiculous.

Re: Luka?? To LA????
Here's the thing, and this is probably going to happen more frequently than you think. A lot of these teams don't want to dedicate paying 1/4 of a billion to one player. Look at Boston, Tatum's gonna get a mega deal, and between him and Brown, they're gonna be responsible for like 60% of the cap. It's rumored the reason why the owners are selling is because they don't want to deal with the luxury tax stuff. I wouldn't be shocked if Jaylen Brown is traded here within the next year to 18 months.
Luka is a top 3 player in this league. I would have never traded him but I understand the concerns they have. He's the typical show up to camp overweight but it will be in control once he plays himself into shape. Eventually that will catch up, it may not be now, but it will be in the future. Regarding this trade, how many teams have a) a top 10 player and b) out of those teams would trade for Luka straight up? Lakers are probably the only ones who would do it. MAYBE Cavs would trade Mitchell for him but I doubt it. It's clear the Mavs didn't want the poo poo platter of young prospects, picks and pick swaps so they decided to go the route of AD. Again, I never would have made this trade in a million years but I can see why they did it. You open it up to the league, you won't be happy with the offers, Luka may not get traded and now you have a strained relationship.
The Fox one, it's clear the Kings don't know what they're doing. Acquiring Lavine is their way of staying competitive when the obvious thing they should do is blow it up. They essentially traded Fox for 2 FRPs b/c the Charlotte one won't convey, but again...this goes back to they don't want to pay these guys $250+ million so they're trading them to teams that will.

I don't understand this.
NBA salaries are indexed to league revenue. The total of all team salary is something like 57% of league revenue. Whenever the cap increases, it's because the owners are making more money and the CBA requires a percentage of that money to be distributed to players. There's no reason team's should have a problem paying 1/4 of a billion to a player when their percentage of profits remains the same as it was when the cap was much smaller.
As has always been the case, elite players are a bargain salary-wise. If there wasn't an limit to a player salary, the truly elite players like Jokic, Luka and Giannis would likely make an even higher percentage of the cap.

I'm 100% in agreement with you, but billionaires didn't become billionaires by spending money. Boston's tax bill is something like $260 million next season. How many owners are going to want to pay that? I'm not defending the owners, but I can see the justification. Yeah this is the deal they negotiated, doesn't mean they have to be around for it lol.
