Which move is bigger: Kevin Durant to 73-9 GSW or Luka Doncic to Lakers?

Both of these player transactions have caused massive reactions across the world.

- Prime KD joining a 73-9 GSW he lost against the season before on 4th July
- Prime Luka being traded away for a 31 yr AD and 1 first-round pick

Which move do you consider as the biggest between them?

What exactly do you mean by "bigger", like the more significant move? Obviously KD to the Warriors as that made them arguably the most talented team ever assembled who ran roughshod over the league the following season.

There's a pretty solid chance Luka never wins a championship in L.A.

I mean it's obviously the KD move. Went to a 73 win team that had already won a title and completely flipped the league for a few seasons directly resulting in championships. Luka traded is absolutely bonkers but if it leads to nothing in the end it can't be above KD to GS

KD trade was bigger.

Luka trade just has more shock value. Extremely unexpected and was almost impossible until it was done. Lakers truly were stuck and had no way of improving. Miracles happen everyday.

Luka trade is bigger for the NBA as a whole because this should keep the Lakers in the playoff hunt year after year. Without this trade, Lakers were looking at a long rebuild after Lebron leaves. And with ratings not being so great, that could hurt the NBA product for a long time.

This also has more of a global reach as KD wasn't really viewed as #1 at GSW while Luka will be basically taking the torch from Lebron.

Then, the only bad thing people seem to say about Luka is his conditioning so that makes him kind of a hard person to root against. If anything, you might see more people defend Luka.

KD going to the championship contender NBA finals team was by far a bigger trade. Regardless, this trade will be talked about for years too.

Durant.

Why? He left a perennial playoff contender and nearly NBA champion as a free agent and signed with the Warriors, fresh off a title and the league's best record. That move thrust them to the forefront of offensive power and all but guaranteed them a repeated stretch run going forward. His integration was as smooth as can be and caused no disruption to their effectiveness.

Doncic is on the level of Durant as a player, but him being traded and not having anywhere close to the level of teammates Durant had is what makes the difference for me. Doncic's integration and place on the team remains to be seen. So long as James is there, he's going to be the Robin to the James Batman. I don't know how well that works out, but we'll find out soon enough. Maybe, just maybe, James takes a bit of a back seat and just rides along rather than doing the driving.

KD was a more impactful move because he basically guaranteed the Warriors winning the title every year if healthy.

However, KD had the right to choose where he wants to go while the Mavericks did not need to trade Luka, which makes it way more crazy.

Luka is bigger. The Warriors would have won the next two chips without KD, so no real difference there. The Lakers just completely reset their franchise with a top 3 star who's only 25. The Lakers are now in a position to win titles in the future that they otherwise would not have.

The Durant trade was big news because of its implications for the league. At the end of the day, Durant made a decision he felt was good for him.

The Luka trade was big news because of its insanity. I woke up on Sunday morning to 20 texts that were all some paraphrasing of "Dallas traded Luka for AD. WTF!!!".

KD to the Warriors was a ***** move, but otherwise no issues with it.

Luka to the Lakers reeks of corruption.

KD joined a 73 win core, which made them undefeatable short of injuries to Durant and Klay in 2019. I'm not particularly sure if Lebron and Doncic work as well together as Lebron and AD do, and they lose a lot of defense. Ofcourse it was a great trade for them, because now they have a true first option for the foreseeable future, but I'm not sure how they'll work together since they are both ball dominant, but prime Wade was too, and they managed to make it work.

luka to the lakers make them worse in the short term, so definitely durant. in the long term, anything is possible - guys get hurt, they demand trades, they sign elsewhere, they get fat, etc - point being there are no guarantees that luka and the lakers will work out long term.

so durant to the warriors which led to two titles and it isn't close.
