Crazy we have a halfway decent season from the defense and our position coaches just get gutted along with Hafley fielding interviews. One of the reasons for the Chiefs consistent dominance is that Spags is a great DC and has no interest in going elsewhere.

Tbf I think he'd leave for a Head Coaching job, but nobody wants to hire him for that role

Idk, he's probably one of, if not, the best D coordinator in the league, I think he'd be fielding interviews at least if he wanted. The jets and bears interviewed half the country.

He interviewed with the Jets, Raiders, & Jaguars during this Head Coaching cycle

Coaches being poached/interviewed means MLF has done a good job hiring coaches.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Would be amazing to get either Crosby or Garrett. Both have two years left at similar salaries. Both AFC teams you’d be trading with. Both have played with hand down. I’d be happy to trade draft picks for proven stars like them.

Kupp this season looked like he was 2017 Jordy. I don't think there's much of anything left in the tank there. Hard pass.

The Packers just don’t trade anything other than a 6th or 7th round draft pick for a player. Although I can’t even recall the last time they trade a 6th rounder or better pick for a player. They simply don’t believe it is the right thing to do.

However, I have zero doubt that if and when Garrett and/or Crosby get traded to other teams we will hear from one or more of the local beat writers about how Green Bay was really, really close but Cleveland or LV demanded too much followed by the usual message of how good teams don’t trade away draft picks.

We offered a first and a second for Khalil Mack. The player has to be worth the cost. Not only are you giving up draft capital, you are also giving up major chunks of salary cap space. Gute has shown the ability to pay in free agency AND the willingness to go after trades. You cannot just assume because we were outbid by the Bears (and they ended up regretting it), that we were not in on it. This is not Ted Thompson. We have evolved past only drafting and developing.

And I have zero doubts that people of your ilk will choose not to believe any of those reports, regardless of how reliable they appear.

Gutey talked about the need for urgency in his end-of-season presser. The window is now, which was not the perception in the 2023 off-season. In 2024, they went out and spent big money on the best as well as young and surprisingly available safety available. They also spent money on probably their top RB available. This year, I could see them trading a top pick(s).

With Garrett, man, the timing is just right. They have a lot of leverage. Garrett wants a trade. Even if they could change his mind, the Browns might as well get picks and players to build around, rather than keeping Garrett or extending Garrett. Garrett wants to go to a contender. Our picks come before other contenders' with space--Lions, Vikings, Commanders. For more leverage, we could even say we're working on something with the Raiders for Crosby.

And we need an edge rusher. We need elite players. We drafted about a dozen players each of the last three years; it's going to be hard for rookies to find significant playing time this season. The only realistic starting spot for a rookie might be CB.

Gutey is in his 8th year as GM.

How many times have we heard that Green Bay was "in on a trade" that never came to fruition since he assumed the GM role?

The Packers are the kings of making trade offers that fall just short ... or at least that is what the leaks to the local beat writers suggest.

Now, I have no doubt Gutey is more willing than Ted Thompson to go after trades as it would be nearly impossible not to be ... but Gutey has made exactly NO TRADES for players involving round 1-5 picks during his tenure.

That is not an opinion, it is an undeniable fact.

Maybe Garrett gets traded maybe he doesn't but the prospect of him getting traded to Green Bay is just contrary to everything the Packers and their GM are about.

I'm usually not a fan of giving up premium picks to be able to pay a guy market value. I think back to the Khalil Mack trade and I think we came out ahead by being able to sign the Smith bros & draft Gary. If we trade for Garrett we lose the draft picks & the cap space to be able to fill other holes. Maybe that's worth it? I'm not sure. Garrett is really awesome but then how do we fill WR or CB? Then again I think there's a good argument to be made that last years team plus Garrett is a true Superbowl contender

I don't know how much impact his statements will have, but you sure have to admire his persistence and enthusiasm. He's been consistently talking up those potential additions.

I just hope he doesn't burn too many teammates doing this. Wicks seems miffed already...
