Btw, I'm not really sure how the Players, especially Kyrie, feel about this trade...Luka and Kyrie were tight, even hung out with their families....and Klay came because of Luka(his passing) ...Gafford had an offer to Play for slovenian National team...Lively was a huge fan of Luka
Could the conspiracy theory that the owners want to relocate to Vegas be true?? I doubt it,Mavs a history and Dallas is a big market....but they did screw this teams future
For Luka’s sake I hope this trade humbles him. Maybe a trade is what it will take for Luka to focus on his health and conditioning.

That’s actually pretty funny.
Mavs make blockbuster deal NO ONE ever thought was possible. They have finally traded Maxi Kleber. They only had to attach Luka to the deal for the trade to be accepted. Lol

Amen brother! I’ve been a die hard Mavs fan since the late the late 80’s-early 90’s. One player does not make the team.

Man, I would really love it from the bottom of my bleeding heart if Mavs fans left the AAC empty the next time we play at home.
I'm so damn livid.
There’s that toxicity again!

I still can't believe what went down...been browsing thru reports the whole day trying to make sense of this
...I've been very critical of Luka, his bad habits(condition, complaining), and very vocal that he needs to do better....feels like the Mavs really had enough, were tired of him, there's no other way to explain this trade...or are they really that scared of the new contract ....it's weird that Zion, despite the problems is still on the Pelicans and Luka is gone... hopefully we find out the truth about what went wrong because now it seems like everybody is just trying to cover their ass...AD is great ,but you have to win the title now to justify this trade or Luka has to be done, because of his bad habits(injuries)

Bill Simmons said that Pelinka convinced Nico not to shop Luka around.
Man if that's true.
Pelinka and Nico go back, apparently both were close to Kobe.

It's clearly true and it's clearly a fraud, let's boycott NBA.
Don't watch games and don't buy tickets.
I hope Mavs fans will riot next home game.
I'm sorry for the team but Nico and owners screwed us.

I wonder what Kyrie's thinking...I know he and AD are cool but does this trade put a little doubt in his head when it's time to resign? Nico could easily resign KAI and then 6 months later trade him for a piece he thinks is better

I am concerned about Kyrie. He enjoyed playing with Luka and he played free for the first time in years.
On the other hand is he used to a lott of stuff and he did quite some weird things going on during his career.
But nothing like that

Kyrie should ask for a no-trade clause and if they say no, take the money. Take the feelings out of it. I do not care if you trade me if they pay me. The Mavs should keep it simple if they make another move (which I think they should) I'm looking for someone who can come in and a little bit of what Luka does.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap post 24 FA
The next step for Nico Harrison is to replace the offensive skill set of Luka before the trade deadline. You're not gonna obviously get a scorer and playmaker at the level of Luka. That's obvious. I'm looking at that SG and SF spot.
Kyrie / Spencer/ Exum
Klay /Grimes/ Hardy
A. Davis /
Washington / Marshall / Prosper / Edwards
Gafford/ Lively
Guys you can potentially move depends on who bring in.. personally I think priority should be on adding another ball handler / scorer that can come off the bench. Your looking for the highest quality player you can bring in. Ideally, a point forward that can play that SF spot but if no one is available - you settle for a guard which probably more do-able. The perfect guy would have been CJ McCollum from the NO who has 2 years left...but he's probably too expensive at 33 million a year. He would have been perfect but I'm pretty sure this doesnt make financial sense.
The way I look at it - Grimes declined an extension. He's a tier below a CJ level scorer/play maker and he's too inconsistent as an offensive player. And his play making doesn't help us recover some of those skills we lost with Luka. If you find a guy in a Kris Middleton mold that you can bring in and afford - that's another guy you wanna go after. I would be willing to move Grimes, Hardy, and Marshall, Powell, and for the right player - I would move Klay but I think he stays. I heard names like Clarkson and bruce bowen...however both of these guys are a tier below a CJ Mac out of NO. We need a confident guy that can come off the bench for our Kyrie and or Klay and make plays and be aggressive, penetrate, and pass the ball.
That's my mind set. If we get a SF, I'm sending PJ to the bench and making him our 6th man. If we add a guard (most likely) I'm starting PJ at SF.
Most likely starting lineup:
Kyrie
Klay
PJ
Davis
Gafford
Spencer / Exum
Max Christie / Hardy
PJ /Prosper / Christie
Davis / PJ
Lively / Kelley
You potentially have:
marshall - 8.5
powell - 4.0
grimes -4.2
hardy - 2.0
18.7 million in salary
If you add Klay to that:
you're looking at about 34.5 million in salary
I would personally keep Klay and try to find someone between 4 -18.7 million. I have heard some rumblings about K. Johnson from the Spurs a 6.5 guard / small forward that is due like 19 million per year. I do not know a lot about him. I think we need someone who is at least a borderline allstar that is okay with coming off the bench and is very confident handling the ball and making plays like Luka. This gives us too high level ball handlers and play makers. That's my opinion.
Note: I would consider letting Klay go (bit of a risk) for the right guard if I can keep Grimes and possibly start him. I would keep it simple if i'm Nico. Just try your best to get someone that does similar things to Luka. You got better defensively and if you add another player who can come in and give Kyrie a break at a high level - or play with Kyrie at times...that should be the goal.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap post 24 FA
I can't help but think that Nico overreacted/panicked,kind of like us when we get caught in the moment, and made a rash decision...are we sure that he was behind PJ, Gafford trades and not Dennis Lindsey who left for Detroit this year...it seems like, because the Cavs Look amazing this year, with their two headed monster under the basket, he's trying to copy that team...but the Cavs have two amazing guards also...Mitchell who is kind of like Kyrie ,a smaller SG , and Garland who's a true PG...Mavs lack that one true PG now...also,the Cavs were terrible last year with a different coach and now Play dominant with another...are we sure JKidds gameplan is suited for this roster construction...I think there's more moves that are coming in the offseason, nobody is safe...not PJ,not Gafford ,not even Kyrie or Lively(who has his own injury concerns...remember those rumors that teams were asking about Gafford and Lively...we sure Nico didn't leaked that out there to see what he could get for them?...this team now has 2-3 year window to win a tittle(although Nico said 4) and then?? They've now basicaly put themselves in the PHX situation but at least PHX has Booker they can trade when things go south...hope for the best but even a title won't feel right(for me) after what happened

Kidd was the head assistant on the 2020 Lakers squad where they beat Miami in the bubble with AD dominating. If Kidd and Nico are actually in strong alliance, then this could have been a pre-emptive move fueled by circumstance

“There is a well-documented list of people close to Dončić who have left or were forced out since Harrison took over. Scott Tomlin, the team’s longtime VP of basketball communications. Casey Smith, the longtime athletic trainer, widely regarded as one of Dončić’s closest allies in the organization. Igor Kokoškov, an assistant coach during Kidd’s first year, was another departure. He coached Dončić to a EuroBasket title in 2017 and served as his pregame workout partner—a role he took over from Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley, another voice Dončić deeply respected. Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Boban Marjanović, three players Dončić respected and was close with, all left the Mavericks during Harrison’s tenure. Another person who had a short tenure in Dallas, not necessarily from Dončić's circle but well-respected around the league, was Dennis Lindsey, who left for Detroit in the summer.”

Good post. While the Mavs defense should be elite now (sucks Lively will miss time) offense seems to be a concern. Though, I would say they're maybe in better shape with their 2 top offensive options (scoring diversity wise) with surrounding shooting than a Houston/Memphis/Houston and better defensively of course than Denver. Getting one of the guards from Jazz or Malik Monk would be huge though for Dallas
I also feel like getting and playing next to a great player more often will help Klay get the kind of looks that he joined Dallas to get But Luka has not been present. Not to mention Davis is of course more passive than Luka. With a little more firepower I would definitely be very bullish on Dallas chances of getting out of the West

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap post 24 FA
I know we’re all still in mourning, and that any wish for the FO to operate shrewdly seems folly, but hopefully this is a constructive cope:
1. Retaining Gafford and Grimes seems unlikely based on reports, so flipping them for value now is the move.
2. Dallas does still need an initiator, Kyrie can play point for us in stretches, but relying on him to initiate the offense for a full 48 is unrealistic and a waste of his value if demanded of him imo.
DAL ==> D. Gafford / N. Marshall / Q. Grimes
ATL ==> C. Capela / D. Daniels / M. Gueye
Daniels has emerged as a solid playmaker and an excellent POA defender. Given Okongwu’s struggles to unseat Capela at the 5, getting a younger, bigger replacement seems like something they’d be interested in. I’m not sure if ATL is willing to part with Dyson without some kind of draft compensation (or at all), but I’d be willing to toss in our ‘25 1st if needed. Finally, moving on from Naji opens up a real possibility for O-Max to secure rotation minutes, which I think is a real plus for us long-term and potentially short term as well. This allows us to move PJ to the bench where he can be the focal point of our second unit and dominate against weaker opposition.
Rotation (when healthy):
PG: D. Daniels (28) / S. Dinwiddie OR D. Exum (12)
SG: K. Irving (36) / M. Christie OR J. Hardy (16)
SF: K. Thompson (28) / O. Prosper (12) / K. Edwards
PF: A. Davis (36) / P. Washington (28) / M. Gueye
C: D. Lively (28) / C. Capela (16) / D. Powell

I typically dont like Assuie players (simmons and josh green left a bad taste) but he looks like a very good defender, decision maker, and he's 6'7. I like him. Its worth considering. I would like a little more fire power on the offensive end with the guy we're bringing in but he would be a nice concession considering his skillset and PJ's expiring contract next year if we need to improve more. I would also prefer PJ get priority of the minutes at the 3 or 4 when Klay or Ad is out the game or AD is at the 5. Overall, this is worth considering imo.
Might need a 3rd team if ATL doesnt want Gafford and we need to turn him into an asset.
