Could you have gotten more for Fox? I'm banging my head asking the same question about Lavine. If we're comparing Lavine and Fox here, I think you are getting the more dynamic player who will only thrive better with your role players than he did this year with the Bulls. That is of course if he stays healthy.

The only real downfall could be the same issue when Lonzo Ball went down a couple of years ago. Will you guys have a guard who can be the glue that keeps all of the offensive weapons playing in harmony? Who is that guy going to be? It doesn't seem like Fox was a great facilitator in that regard.

I agree about Lavine as a dynamic player, however IMO DDR needs to go. It just doesn't make sense for this team. And I will say, we bought Lavine at his high, definitely not a buy low scenario.

I'm not sure we really bought high on him.

Look at it as a 2 team deal. We then routed Collins, Huerter, Jones, and 1 of the protected picks for LaVine. That's two bad contracts + a pick that's unlikely to convey for LaVine.

Did the Bulls get a positive package? I'd have that as clearly negative.

I agree Bulls picked the right direction that made sense for them, but we got LaVine at a negative valuation.

Fox was worth Tre/Collins/Cap space + 3 1st + 5 2nds.

2 Things with this.
The Charlotte 1st shouldn't be called a first. It would be a miracle for them to make the POs. Now, the only way you can say its a first is it gives the Kings some flexibility with trade with the Stepian rule if I'm not mistaken.

The Bulls pick they got back is far more valuable to the Bulls. It had extreme value to them on this rebuild, yet no one extracted value.
Grab Jalen Smith FFS. The Kings lack depth across the board.

So Fox went for Tre/Collins/Cap Space + 3 1st + 5 2nds, but the Kings held the major thing the Bulls wanted, their pick back.

I would be on board with this trade if the Atlanta pick and the Sac swap were in there instead of the Charlotte pick. Or Castle himself. That's it, not budging from that amount, because realistically it would be more in the off season, but the Spurs want to make a run at the play in now, so they had motivation to get it done now while CP3 and Barnes have enough left in the tank to give them a look in at a potential PO series. They don't get Fox, they don't get to have a run at it.
So it was 2 fold for the Spurs, they paid less despite their desperation in a) wanting to go for a PI run and b) not wanting this to be opened up to other teams.

Just to be clear. I'm not calling the Charlotte pick a 1st. I said De'aaron is worth 3 1st and 5 2nds. Those 3 1sts were bulls (slight chance it conveys), 27 Spurs, 31 Minnesota.

The value to get them their pick back was them losing Lavine, and instead eating Huerter/Collins. That's 36 million in dead money next year, in the current NBA you cannot dump 36 million in bad salary for 1 top 10 protected 1st.

I don't think we neede4d as much as you are suggesting. If we got Sochan back and maybe our 31 1st instead of Charlottes fake 1st, I would have been happy. But again not arguing we got a good deal, just was saying we bought Lavine as a negative. And lots of reports lately that teams like GS/Bucks were starting to consider Lavine as backup options. He's having an incredible year, better than Fox (although Fox had better the last 2 at minimum).

It is Monk 100%

He is the spirit of this team and likes to feed his guys. Plays more for his teammates (especially Sabonis in the P&R) than Fox ever did.

Monk isn’t the facilitator like Lonzo but he is close, imo. Monk has more explosive offensive game than Lonzo ever did though.

It will be interesting for sure.

I’m curious about the DDR & Lavine fit.

Also, I don’t think we are done yet.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they shipped most of those picks to get another ‘win-now’ player.

I really hope so man. This team realistically has the same problems we did 2 days ago.

I'm a broken record but I think the Demar experiment should be over. I was in on that move with the mindset that we were drafting a forward, and trading Huerter for a wing. I still think if they drafted Da Silva or Ware, and traded Huerter + a pick for DFS this team would not be where we are today.

But now with Fox gone, lets really get back to how we played early on. Monk/LaVine as the ball handlers, Sabonis setting up half court offense, 3&D guys surrounding them. Keon, Carter, Lyles, Keegan is a start. Realistically you need to add 2 more front court players and we can still salvage the season.

But I remember post demar everyone saying we aren't done yet, and then the moves never came.

It would be laughable if the Kings didn’t do anything after the Lavine trade. I really do expect them to get another player or two. But hey, you never know. This org likes to repeat things until the point of insanity.

The team still have the same holes. It appears they are hung-ho about win now with this core. I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade their new picks for a player now. We will see.

Still several days until the deadline is over.

Yes, I’m a fan of our GM still and think he did well. Lavine is a better player than Fox health permitting

Random thought. With fox gone and keon doing his thing, there really is no place on this roster for Carter to develop. He is not a point guard.

Id flip Carter before he loses any value he has. Address backup forward, center, and pg.

Someone suggested our TPE + 2nds for Yabusele + Martin which I really like.

Id then look at Carter + Lyles for a backup point guard. Trey + Carter for sexton + 2nds?

Sabonis/yabusele
Keegan/Jones
Derozan/Martin
Lavine/Keon
Monk/sexton

Sexton shooting 42% from 3 this season and helps replace some of foxs scoring.

The mavericks were afraid of Luka Doncic on a super max, let alone the ridiculousness of the idea of Fox on one

Now that Keegan isn’t ducking from Mike Brown anymore and playing somewhat consistently, we are a Trey Lyle’s removal from me enjoying the presence of everyone in the rotation

And I do believe he will be involved in a trade for F/C depth coming up

Fox wasn't going to be supermax eligible. And the idea that any team was actually afraid of luka on supermax is a joke, there was definitely some foul play here to get Luka to LA.

I think you make a critical point here that has a LOT to do with why the entire season started off wrong.

I would bet my next paycheck that if you polled every person on this board AND all of G1C on any given night before this last draft, it would have been a unanimous yes that we would be drafting a wing type forward to fill in that glaring hole or a developmental young big to fill in at PF next to Domas.

Instead we once again drafted likely the BPA (in the view of that moment) but we were finally at a point where we COULD draft for need and develop on the fly.

Honestly going forward from here if I don’t see them drafting long tall athletic guys then that would absolutely make me give up on things because it’s clear that Vivek is totally controlling the narrative and loves flashy guards.

Still wish we took my guy, Ryan Dunn. He and Da Silva were my top two choices.

Da Silva would have been awesome. And literally projects as a perfect fit long term... I think Carter could have a long NBA career, just again not sure it's here. Not a great fit off the bench with Keon, and IMO Keon has done enough to secure a long term extension here ASAP.

Once again, Vivek thinking he’s building the Warriors 2.0.

The part that he keeps missing though is the big bodied Center and Draymond as a PF/small ball C as well as Iggy, Wiggins playing top level D and as a spot up 3pt threat and the various role players that contributed a ton to every run.

Oh and KD. And that Steph dude and Klay when he was the best two way player in the league.

But yeah, we can do that with Four hundred guards! :banghead:

Yeah, I like the Val move for sure. Would probably have preferred Rob Williams just give us a different dynamic but Val will really help the minutes when Sabo is on the bench.

Decent move to get Val. Still need to add another big that can hit the 3 and defend.

Return to Sacramento Kings
