Caleb Martin would actually be pretty great if all it took was Pat and a 2nd.

Maybe they force you to take Nurkić in for Brook? I'd be fine with that :D

Totally bizarre

What?

Why would Washington trade for Durant?

Edit: not referencing your trade, just the tweet

Only logic is that Durant is from DC, I sincerely doubt KD would be happy about it.

I’m not the trade guru you guys are so call me an idiot but with rumors swirling about Durant possibly being on the block how about a three way:

Bucks-Durant
Heat-lillard
Suns-butler

Probably makes zero sense with Beal and booker there so maybe get Beal to Miami as well someone?

The Heat aren't in the driver's seat on Butler. You seem to think the Bucks are the only team under pressure. The Heat are under much more to get rid of him.

I find it highly unlikely that Butler isn't moved in the next two days.

I don't know why you presume to know that I think that. Butler is a special case in that nobody has any idea what is going on in his head and if he would even be willing to play for us so I wanted to exclude him for the moment.

It was a genuine question as to who he had in mind as a needle mover that we could/should get if we put that pick on the table.

Ron Swanson wrote:If you guys are so confident in telling us all that "no trade makes us a championship contender" then why are you not advocating for that Khris for Kuzma trade or the Khris/Bobby package for Beal and a truck load of assets? Any trade where we turn our old and about to be free agent player assets (Khris, Brook, Bobby) into any sort of younger player or minor draft capital should absolutely be the goal then.

I actually wonder if us trying to get Butler undermines a Beal+ Truck load of assets option, which may actually be better long term. I think if the Heat/Suns get desperate something like this could be on the table

Bucks: Beal, 2025 CLE/UTA/MIN, 2029 CLE/UTA/MIN, 2030 Swap w/ Suns
Heat: Middleton, Portis, 2027 CLE/UTA/MIN, Dunn
Suns: Butler + Throw in

Move some second rounders to get the Pistons to take Pat C.

It really just comes down to how desperate are the Heat to get off of Butler. If they would take a minimal return, then Horst needs to leverage that against the Suns since we are one of few teams Beal would go to

The only angle I can see for Washington is:

1. The team is currently unwatchable, and the only way to watch them on TV locally is by paying double the cost of NBA League Pass. I can't imagine they have many paying customers right now given how expensive it is and the fact that they may be the worst team in NBA history. Getting a gigantic name like Durant who also happens to be a local hero could make a big difference, at least among the more casual fans. I think the hardcore Wizards fans are totally on board with the rebuild though.

2. With the changes to the lottery odds, having the literal worst record isn't super important anymore. They could probably acquire Durant and still finish tied for the best odds of getting the #1 pick.

3. Could simply try to flip him in the future for more assets.

Still, them being the betting favorites to get him doesn't pass the smell test to me. Even if Phoenix were interested in guys like Kuzma, Brogdon, etc. it feels more likely that Durant would end up on a 3rd team.

Hard disagree.

I don’t think 35 year old, primadonna, Jimmy Butler is moving the needle much this year. This roster has a lot of flaws beyond just getting rid of Middleton and calling it a day.

I honestly can’t understand how anyone can watch this team and think we’re a trade away from winning a title. Respectfully, that’s pure delusion, in my opinion.

If you go on bball index and filter it so it only shows players classified on defense as "wing stoppers," you will learn two things:

1. There are not a lot of defensive wing stoppers who qualify as legit two way players.

2. Jimmy, even at 35, playing on a team he has no interest in, is at the top of the list when you sort by overall impact (per game, not cumulative).

I'm gonna pretend this "Khris and draft capital for Kuzma" stuff isn't real because I might projectile vomit if Horst was stupid enough to do something like that. I am choosing to focus on the Caleb Martin stuff. Go get that done.

Marques foreshadowed the Bucks making trades when last night he said "some of these guys would be able to help other teams more than the Bucks".

The only reason they would trade kd is to blow it up. Swapping kd for jimmy doesn't make them better.

But Washington isnt paying assets for KD. Why would they think they could get more for him later? Hes already old. This year's run is very important to his trade value.

Washington is tanking, they aren't going to play KD.

So wtf is with that line? Suckers bet?

We can offer Khris, Bobby, AJ Johnson, whatever other young player Phoenix likes, and the 31 1st and 2nd

Okc could crush that
Denver?
Gsw could probably beat it

I dont think we really have a chance. Jimmy remains our most likely scenario imo

Those things can be true and still not move the needle closer to a championship these season. If you think Jimmy Butler is the answer to all the team’s problems and the key to a title, then I’d have to question whether you’ve actually been watching games.

Id love to see a Dame, KD, Giannis and Jimmy lineup. Can Dame and Giannis take some paycuts to make happen. Horst out here playing video games.

If we get Kuzma, it better have 3 firsts attached to it that we swing for KD.

Sorry. I was thinking of a different comment about Miami wanting more than what we might be offering.

Swapping KD for Jimmy does make some sense if Durant has communicated to them that he won't re-sign and they can acquire more draft assets though. Again, Phoenix has no control over their draft for the next half decade. They have zero incentive to completely blow it up, and Booker/Beal with an extended Jimmy would at least keep them competitive enough to prevent forking over multiple Top-5 picks the next 2-3 years.

Maybe the Suns got crazy and want to splii KD into Kuzma, Brook, 2031 FRP with Midds going to DC? At this point you can expect anything.

This is still the same Bucks team (+ Middleton) that dominated OKC in the Cup Final. Yes, a deadline deal can improve the team. But saying a team with Giannis and Dame isn't a contender? C'mon, man.

Not huge on one game regular season sample sizes when trying to prove playoff contention ability. Bucks are 12th in O rating, 11th in D rating, 11th in net rating and 13th in SRS right now and not trending in a positive direction. They aren't even homecourt today. I think calling them a contender is a massive stretch.
