LeBron James Could Retire In Next Two Years

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 4, 2025 2:09 pm

LeBron James has been open about how his playing career is coming to an end. James hasn't put a timeline on things, but he's openly said things are winding down.

Now, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is said to be considering retirement. That could come within the next two years, according to sources close to James.

James was also reportedly not upset by the Lakers recent trade of Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic. James views the move as a business decision for Los Angeles to set up their future after he's no long a part of it.

James has a $52.6 million player option for next season. As he has in the past, James is playing it year-to-year with his contracts. The expectation has been that he will opt out and sign another two-year deal with the Lakers, including a player option on the second season. This allows James to re-evaluate where things are at with himself and Los Angeles at the end of each season.

I think it's a safe assumption that next season will be LeBron's last. He can get the Kobe retirement tour.

Classic Lebron. This is about attention (that was moved away from him to Luka) -- no hate and not even questioning the motivation -- it's worked for him for >20 years.

Just 1 month ago he said "to be honest I could probably play this game at a high level probably for about another five to seven years"

And in other news... Trump backtracks on another decision, lol news at 11...

Lebron could play another 5 years, and still be better than 90 percent of nba players....

I'm genuinely curious. This sounds like LeBron making statements for what he's going to do but is he really in a position to just state his intentions and Lakers will go along? The Lakers will really sign another contract instead of letting him play his last year and not extend? Do Lakers really want him for 2 more years? It's a flat no from my point of view and he doesn't have the same pull Kobe did.

This is news because it has nothing to do with the other 29 teams.

Your right his pull is bigger.. He is worth more than Kobe. I understand that if your purely a lakers guy either magic or Kobe are the number 1 guys but if your talking market pull then LeBron is bigger than both.. Who are you getting as a free agent that better than LeBron and if he walks you understand it doesn't free up cap space since they are way over the cap anyway maybe a little if you let dfs and LeBron walk but remember luka is paid more than AD so let's say that frees 20mil cap space who for? Make it make sense?

Lebron with prime AD didn't make playoffs last year. That's my point. Replace LeBron with any other star out there and pair it with AD and they will do major damage and certainly go deep into playoffs. And that's my whole point. Lebron is chasing numbers and records now. He's padding his stats. It's proven Lebron cannot win anymore no matter how many stars you put besides him. They tried everything. His stats are unbelievable for his age but what's the point if they can't win. And that's just it. People are so stuck on lebron being so great and all. I just don't get it. Look at the trade. You think the Mavs wanted Lebron? You think anyone out there wants Lebron on their roster? I don't think so. If anything, Lakers is trying to push him out. They just don't know how considering how everyone is just so star stuck with him. In my opinion, Lebron is done. Lakers will give the ball to Luka and ask lebron to take a backseat. Knowing Lebron, no way he will accept a secondary role and he done. At least with the Lakers.
