The more I hear about this, watching the Nico Harrison presser... I think Rob Pelinka just took advantage of his old friend from Nike.


- It appears to me, Nico Harrison is not a very bright man.
- Nico looked up to and owed a lot to Pelinka, for the whole Nike thing, over 20+ years of friendship
- Fast forward to modern times, Pelinka probably was sowing seeds into Nico's head for a long time now. Asking Nico to casual lunches, planting seeds of discord. "Luka has to buy into your culture, Nico! You're the GM, is Luka still drinking? wow, so disrespectful"
- Nico himself said, this whole thing began a month ago when Pelinka and Nico are having lunch, and Pelinka asks, "Would you ever trade Luka?"

Look at how sinister this all is. Why would Pelinka ask this? He finessed his old friend, who admittedly doesn't seem very smart.

Then convinced Nico that this has to be kept under wraps, nobody can know. Nobody! Well duh, because if someone finds out, they'd tell Nico how ridiculous this is.

Nico then, after being thoroughly brainwashed by Pelinka, his long time friend and MENTOR at Nike.... he sells the idea to the owners.


PREDICTION : Nico Harrison is going to publicly regret this trade, and talk about Pelinka finessing him. I don't know when. But maybe in 2-3 years.

They need to fire him yesterday and start begging Luka today to rejoin in free agency (can this be done rules-wise?).

What was that trade involving the Lakers that Stern or Silver vetoed 15 years ago or so? Why is this not being compared to that?

Because that would be stupid.

There's no chance the Lakers are done in this trade market. They're most likely going to get one or two bigs before Thursday.

Others have already mentioned why the league was able to veto the trade.

Imo only reason why trade was blocked was because league tried to sold New Orleans, and in their mind, without at times top 5 player in Chris Paul, there would be less interest.

Pau Gasol trade to LAL was way worst.
They got bunch of bums and right to Marc Gasol, who, at times, was over 320 pounds and looked like Biggest loser candidate.

I think the league needs to seriously look at how some of these super max contracts are structured.

It’s not fair that a player earns the eligibility only for a corrupt GM to pull it out from under them.

I would love to see the final figure of what Luka will miss out on when you take taxes into account. I know he is likely to get more endorsement opportunities in LA, still.

Kyrie looks sad. He's probably going to demand a trade now. Reaves + 1x FRP probably gets it done, but I think that's a bit of an overpay since Luka was worth 1x FRP and Kyrie isn't as good as him. Maybe Reaves + 2x SRP.

The supermax is supposed to help the team that drafted the player since only they can offer it. Nobody ever envisioned a scenario where a team would trade a supermax-eligible player. The NBA should look into its corruption problem, not changing rules designed to help small market teams.
