I wonder if there were showcasing Huk for a trade putting him in now was just odd. I hope not.

So. Sims sets good screens. He learned that. He doesn't move, get offensive fouls etc.

Hukporti noticeably sets screens better, plays with better bball IQ in general.
Not knocking Sims, it's just pretty apparent.

There was a play about 5 minutes in, Huk set a screen for Brunson, rolled, then boxed in Poetl so Brunson had a clear path for the floater.
Then right after he set an effective screen for a Brunson baseline jumper.

And so on.

I didn't realize he had an injury history. Maybe there was some strength and conditioning stuff going on too, along with adjustment to the NBA, and that's why the Knicks brought him along slowly, per JVG comment.

For all the complaining we've done about Thibs with Dadiet, Kolek and Hukporti, Knicks have done a pretty good development job with their young players. So might pay to trust their process with these three. Four if you count McCullars. Who will become the backup SF.

I think it's getting him some burn to get acclimated because Sims is going out.

It's kind of a take on what Ian Begley said, but I think any move(s) the Knicks make are going to be some Aller cap things, where the Knicks get a 2nd round pick for Sims, but it helps their cap next year. Something like that.

Aller pretty relentless about managing the cap, making moves around the margins to pick up assets, not waste an asset, and Sims is expiring.

I hope the increased heat has gotten to Thibs so that Precious playing more minutes and Hukporti getting some burn is going to be a regular thing. Hukporti's defense so far seems absolutely excellent and he does have a bit of touch on offense as well.

If you look at it this way:

KAT, Mitch, Precious, Hukporti --> our frontcourt situation is actually pretty solid. OG and Hart could, depending on matchups also play some 4.

Hukporti is a rook with a history of serious injury. It might be a deliberate thing to bring him along cautiously and with patience.

I see the feet sliding on defense and violent movement style and can’t help think of that Achilles.

Our pups have been logging minutes in the g while working with the big club and observing the machine being built. They’ll get run in due time and be readier for it.

Precious also missed a lot of time with a hamstring injury and has been saying himself he is JUST feeling right in recent days. Deuce in a similar boat. Dadiet been hurt too despite calls for him to cover OG right now. What you want coach to do?

He was also missing important defensive rotations early in the season. I think people simply see development as just putting a player on the court to play a lot of minutes and hoping he figures it out. He’s likely had plenty of practice time and film work because he was absolutely in better defensive positions the last two games.

I'd just like to point out that with 3:03 left in the 1st quarter Kenny Albert stated "Dick slams it home"

Ok. That's all.

Clyde said last night that Huk had a bad game in Houston and redeemed himself and even mentioned his negative 16 plus minus. Thibs has standards for his players and needs them to contribute when they get minutes.

During the Houston game the announcers also said Udoka will bench his young players if they are not playing good defense. Setting standards and benching is part of development.

We got us a center! Sims will not see the floor once Mitch is back.
Excellent defense by the Hulk.

Video at 32 seconds: "As Dick takes it inside." But Dick didn't "Bang!"

Yeah maybe in reality it wasn't about the coaching staff really seeing Sims > Huk but rather they wanted to get at least a second rounder back for Sims so they gave those minutes to Sims to showcase him. Cause they brief eye test screams that Huk is pretty much better in most basketball related areas. I hope we see him some more after the deadline and until Mitch is back.
