There is absolutely no way we are trading the 1st in that scenario. Just not happening

Trade the "Player Option" players, Khris + Pat

Shop Brook for any mobile above 6'8 , if noone wants him, bench him, roll out the season and let him retire.

Keep Portis unless legit No3 needle mover comes here

This should be the clean house plan.

Lets get 64M off our books in the summer.

Getting expiring contracts is key to semi summer reset.

You realize our window dies as Dame falls off right?

We should not be thinking about summer

I don’t think Middleton for Kuzma straight makes us better and actually think it worsens our title chances. I get the second apron element, but there is still zero chance I’m attaching a 1st round pick to add a player that makes us worse.

I certainly hope not, but I don't think it's impossible that we would. Washington has essentially zero incentive to make the trade unless we include the pick. With Kuzma's contract declining in the future on top of simply not being that expensive to begin with, they don't really have any reason to trade him unless they get an asset that can be useful down the line. Now the pick would almost certainly be protected to some degree, and again, I'm hoping this is not the direction we go in, but if we do trade Middleton for him, I wouldn't be surprised if the first round pick is involved.

Whoever the return expiring is, it is better money wise for the Bucks.
Player wise we can take a small step back, but he will be younger and available come playoffs.
So I don't hate the Kuzma scenario.
I love the Ingram scenario. Posted to get him years ago.
Standing pat is awful ... Khris opting in is awful, Pat optiing in is awful too, it zeros Lillard's last good 2 years he has.

“Kuzma would be better there than he was in Washington,” said one league source. “He’d be a lot more locked in if he’s on the floor with Giannis. It’s hard when you’re on a team that’s not going anywhere. You can get a little sideways.

“The funny thing is, Kuzma’s been playing better the last couple of weeks since his name’s been in trade rumors. He’s been playing like the guy you know he can be. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, but that’s what it seems like.”

Middleton, meanwhile, has been diminished defensively since his ankle surgeries.

“But the financial standpoint is probably the biggest thing,” said the source. “Kuzma gets them below the second apron and gives them a bunch more flexibility, especially this summer. They’d have the ability to go out and get somebody legit.”

Though Middleton’s salary is higher, his contract is a year shorter than Kuzma’s, with next season a player option.

Lol...

We cant just "sign someone legit" by clearing the aprons. We would need to shed 18M+ to get under the luxury tax and open up the full mle. Otherwise, the max we can spend is about 5m per year on one player.

Goodie

*Get* somebody legit, not *sign* somebody legit. The power to aggregate contracts is crucial for the ability to bring in a high-salaried player without giving one up.

But is that what we should be doing? And if so, is this summer too late?

The pick cant be protected, really, because we cannot create trade language that offers a pick in a year further than 31. So the most we can do is protect it for 1-whatever and then it becomes our 31 2nd if it doesn't convey. Not very enticing to anyone. We could trade it for multiple firsts and then give them one, maybe, but that still feels gross.

Anyway, i do get your point, but what is the Bucks incentive to swap Khris for Kuzma? To get below the 2nd apron? Then why not just send Pat and a first to whoever and keep Khris?

I think the only reason this is perplexing is because we are giving credence to what is likely a bull rumor.

Putting two and two together, maybe it’s just Khris + ‘31 first for Kuzma, Baldwin, and 3 protected 1sts.

This trade puts us under second apron:

Mke:
Ja Morant
Brandon Ingram
Jay Huff

Memphis:
Dame

NOP:
Lopez
Conny
Wright
Konchar
MKE 31 unprotected
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

Probably 1- 2 firsts needed to Memphis. Not sure Dallas reset the market for trading a young star.

Summer is absolutely too late. Thats a no brainer.

If trading Khris for Kuzma, without giving up a first, allows us to then trade for someone really good, i can kind of see the logic. But by trading Khris, you are now limited in how much salary you can take in for that legit player without sending out a comical ratio of players

For instance, getting KD would require trading:

Brook
Bobby
Pat
Delon
Marjon
AJ Johnson

For

Durant

Not sure how realistic that is.

I have no idea what Phoenix is gonna do, but it sure seems like they're of the mindset that literally anything is better than staying the course with their current roster. That's why I don't see why anyone's surprised that they'd want to swap KD for Jimmy and some extra stuff. I can see the vision with a Beal/Booker/Jimmy/Draymond lineup, and that's a much more balanced offense/defense grouping than what they currently have. Just depends on what the "extra stuff" is.

Yes, and I'm starting to think we are looking into this because A. Teams dont want to take Pat and B. We have a bigger deal lined up and need to get under the apron.

You do not only trade Khris for Kuzma. It HAS to be a means to a better end

if all we did was pull off a stud thats younger than giannis and cleared cap space....thats the reset.

i like where youre going here but it feels greedy. id settle for just morant and a bunch of cap space. get young fast and athletic with the entire rest of the roster

I keep reading how every trade sucks…our roster is flawed and the team sucks collectively…why are we so high on pieces of that? Job 1…get under 2nd Apron. Job 2…keep Dame and Giannis unless blown away Job 3…stop trading young guys with potential

Keeping the 2031 1st unless it’s for a good long-term piece has to be on the list. We have to stop trading picks.
