Durant, Draymond, Butler (LAL, PHX, MIA, GSW, UTA)

Post#1 » by Troubadour » Wed Feb 5, 2025 3:12 pm

Warriors: Need a star to pair with Steph Curry
Suns: Need to stay competitive and get a solid return for Kevin Durant if he's getting traded
Heat: Get Jimmy out of here!
Lakers: Need a frontcourt player with defensive ability
Jazz: Rent cap space for picks

Warriors Receive
Kevin Durant

Warriors Trade
Andrew Wiggins
Draymond Green
Gui Santos
2025 1st Round Pick (GSW)
2025 2nd Round Pick (MIA via GSW; Protected 31-37)
2027 1st Round Pick (GSW)

Golden State adds Kevin Durant without giving up Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody or any of the distant 1st Round Picks.

Suns Receive
Jimmy Butler
Gui Santos
2025 1st Round Pick (GSW)
2027 1st Round Pick (GSW)

Suns Trade
Kevin Durant

Phoenix gets Jimmy Butler and two unprotected 1st Round Picks to retool the team.

Heat Receive
Andrew Wiggins
Rui Hachimura

Heat Trade
Jimmy Butler

Miami gets out of the Jimmy Butler situation and adds two starter-quality wings to fill out the rotation around Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo.

Lakers Receive
Draymond Green
Svi Mykhailiuk

Lakers Trade
Rui Hachimura
Gabe Vincent

LA fills two needs (defensive talent, shooters for Luka) with one trade and keep the 2031 1st Round Pick available for future use.

Jazz Receive
Gabe Vincent
2025 2nd Round Pick (MIA via GSW; Protected 31-37)

Jazz Trade
Svi Mykhailiuk

Utah flips Svi into a high quality 2nd Round Pick in this year's draft.

This is the Lakers stealing value. Rui and Vincent don't get you Draymond Green

I would add that, somehow, PHX has become so obsessed with JB that GSW probably doesn't need to give them 2 frps. It's like MIA is more willing to wait out Butler, who is THEIR problem, than PHX. GSW, steal their best player while you can.

I am also opposed to sending Draymond to LAL for Rui and Vincent  ), where he will absolutely flourish and probably eliminate GSW. I would like to see him in WAS :D IF anything, LAL should be sending a pick to PHX on GSW's behalf and GSW sends nothing. I'd argue that, side by side, all things considered - contracts, performance, age, missed games, attitude...I'd take Wiggins over Butler right now.

For the Jazz portion, I don't think the math works. (Fanspo says this passes, but Spotrac says it fails.) The Jazz don't have an exception large enough to take Vincent's contract and $3.5MM can't bring back $11MM.

Even if the math worked, I don't see Utah taking on an additional $7.5MM in cap plus another $11MM next season (Svi's future money isn't guaranteed) for one measly middling SRP. They got two for taking on a mere fraction of that money in JHS.

I don't think the trade will work for GS because they are capped at the 1st apron and you don't have enough players coming back. Every team has to have the roster minimum and the Warriors wouldn't be able to sign enough players to meet it with how close to the cap they are. GS has to have players come back in trades unless you save them more salary than this.

The money works for GS. After the trade they have about $1.4M to work with and can sign two rookies to rest-of-season for about $878k.

OK thanks for the correction, I thought it was off a little.

That's not to say I like it. Losing both Wiggins and Green leaves their defense in sorry shape.

Agreed, you can only trade for KD if you are keeping one.

Agreed, and you want it to be Green you keep.
