Maybe to increase his trade value? He could be a guy to flip for a late 1st at next year's deadline.

I don’t know how they watch what’s played out at this deadline and think they can get a 1st for Lonzo.

Nice. I genuinely enjoy watching him and Giddey play basketball. If we're gonna suck the next 2 years, atleast we have 2 guys with great BBIQ (despite their limitations).

Would've preferred a longer deal (atleast 3y with club option), but Lonzo probably wouldn't settle for that.

Because he's pretty good and youngish and this is a good deal. We definitely don't need to tear anything down to the studs that will just prolong the agony. There's not much to be gained by being the worst team vs like the 8th-10th worst team or whatever. No reason to plan to be bad for years on end. This season and next should be it. We should "plan to win" starting in 2026-27.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Exactly.

This should make Lonzo way more attractive via trade. Especially this summer.

This is a great move. The TO was the right play. Like someone said earlier, he is easy to root for.

He’s still trade eligible despite this but that would require an organization with an iota of creativity

Just when you think the Bulls front office couldn’t get any worse, they do this. And I like Lonzo, I like him a lot.

I’m sorry but this is a bad decision. Which team was going to offer him this type of contract? No only is he an injury risk, he isn’t the player he was two years ago and he is highly unlikely to ever get back to that level of play.

I don’t hate that they wanted him to stay, I just don’t like the extension they gave him. I would have been much happier if it was in the 10 million for two year range instead.

Just a baffling decision among many other baffling decisions. Our front office is not good, and it’s a god damn shame that they are what we have currently for the foreseeable future; which gives me zero hope that they will make the right decisions in the draft.
Why so serious?

Great extension. Kids need leaders and older players to learn from. Ball has been the Bulls’ leader since he came, and when he went down, it became clear just how much that meant. Plus, feel good story about coming back from what should have been career ending.

Yes there is. The worst team has a 52% chance of getting a top 4 pick, and a 14% chance at #1. The 10th worst has a 14% chance for a top 4 pick and a 3% chance at #1. That's significant.

Lol, yeah let's trade a Klutch client the day he signs a value extension with us. Will be great for our reputation around the league. Smh

I don’t know how they watch what’s played out at this deadline and think they can get a 1st for Lonzo.

If he stays healthy and keeps playing like he is for another year and gets that 3-point percentage back up to 40+ like it was before he got hurt, he could easily fetch a late 1st to a contender. He impacts the game and contributes to winning more than the majority of non-star players.

Where did you see the team option for year two part? If true then it's a great contract.

True, but NO team is ever mathematically projected to be in a position to draft a great player, so I don't see it as maybe as huge as others do. The only draft position where you have a pretty solid chance at a really great player (which is what we need) is #1 overall, and the best chance you can have at that is a mere 14%.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the team option anywhere.

Source?
