I'm more intrigued by this part of the season than any other. Hopefully we get lucky in the draft but if not, it's just going to be another year or so. For those who have been with the team since the Bullets' days, it's getting tougher and tougher to watch.

Completely disagree. As a fan since 1992 I feel better watching us now than I have in years
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

What are the hornets doing trading their 23 year old starting center on his rookie deal? WTF.

It's absolutely insane.

Williams is older but ATM better than Sarr IMO.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

who isn't?

Williams isn't good, can't stay on the floor and is due to get paid. This isn't a good day if we want our division to stay as soft in a couple years

So now that the dust has settled in the trades/assets, I’m a bit underwhelmed/confused about our manipulation of the cap rules and luxury tax.
1) We are ~13M under the Tax. Given the ramifications of the CBA 2nd apron, there HAS to be a way to garner more value before the deadline today.
2) We have the 12.4M Gafford TPE that expires today, and would really be a waste to use.
3) We generated the 10M TPE in the JV trade, but we will be 30M under the cap in the offseason, which makes it useless.

Basically, it seems we left some value on the table and I’m hoping we find a way to tie it all together so it makes sense.

Kleber, Vincent, PJ Tucker, Vanderbilt, Connaughton, etc. All bad contracts that fit

I will agree with you if nothing else changes in the next 5 hours before the deadline. I am sure management is working vigorously to get something else done by then. Who knows if it will pan out...

I have been pretty happy with the trades but... they might not end up being material.

Recap (any corrections appreciated):
Wizards receive:
Late '26 FRP, 2 future SRPs
Middleton, Jackson, AJ Johnson; Sidy Cissoko - waived?

Wizards outgoing:
5 SRPs
Jonas, Kuzma, Butler

Upon further evaluation - this doesn't seem as exciting as each of the trades by themselves. Maybe AJ pans out? We basically have 4 picks from one of the weakest drafts in history.

Now, maybe this FO is willing to trade our current youngsters for more picks - then I would understand where they are going.

Or maybe we can net something for Middleton next trade deadline (2 SRPs would balance the ledger nicely).

But as lastemp3ror states - this FO is trying to deal...

Athletic says they are trying to trade Jackson today, if not he will be waived to make roster space. So there might be something else in the works.

The best part of these trades is getting rid of Kuzma and getting Johnson.

Yep. Although, I wouldn't call those material changes other than Kuzma - that is a huge addition by subtraction (in my little mind).

2 hours and 10 minutes to go.

Not sure I would characterize these trades as uninspiring:

Most would’ve jumped at a deal that sends Kuz out for a late 26 pick. Then if you track JV, Butler and 3 2nds, for Middleton, AJ, Jackson and Cissoko, most woudlve been with it. Seems like an overall pretty good day to me.
Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.

I think it's more that people aren't seeing anything tangibly changing anything in any meaningful way other than offloading the tank commander Kuzma (maybe he really was a tank commander? of course a sample size of 1 is not a sample size).

I'd argue this deadline offers clarity more than anything. At this point they're in full tank mode for hopefully a locked in top 5 pick, please please please let it be top 1-2 in '25, and have pushed in chips to have a top lottery pick in '26, and enough ammo to add another pick probably in the teens via a trade in '26 as well, or just sit tight and make a pile of picks with 2 firsts and multiple 2nds, then see how '26-'27 plays out.....

Of course everything will be quite clear after May '26, at that point we'll know if we're pulling a projected superstar out of those two drafts or landing more of a high end complimentary talent, and no superstars, at which point this thing will have failed and we'll need to try again or just keep trying as the case may be (hard to figure, how low will performance be, if say, we land the 5th pick in '25 and the 4th pick in '26?, will this be a 30 win team as it matures, can it evolve to 50, or will it just continue to suck and take on water to the tune of 55-65 losses a year?).

Recap (any corrections appreciated):

Wizards receive:
2025 late FRP, Late '26 FRP, 2 future SRPs
Middleton, Jackson, AJ Johnson; Sidy Cissoko - waived, Colby Jones, Marcus Smart, Alex Len

Wizards outgoing:
7 SRPs
Jonas, Kuzma, Butler, Bagley, Davis

I think the combination of both a later 2025 & 2026 pick is material. A much better chance to hit on one of the two. Given we are rolling into two back-to-back strong drafts - we got a shot.

Waiving Cissoko seems odd to me, tho maybe it's just a crunch. Perhaps he'll be signed 2-way -- at least I hope he will.
