only way raptors can get these type of players is via trade. draft is a crapshoot. i love this from an asset management perspective. we moved on from pascal and used dead weight deals and surplus picks acquired for him to get a fringe all star guy. we still have all our frps.

I don't know, I mean he's our most talented scorer on the roster right now. Hard to say going forward if that remains but for the moment he is. So, they probably do view him as a potential foundational piece. My guess on how a contract looks is something in the low 40's and possibly mid 40's if it's on shorter deal.

Most talented scorer on the roster, but not on the court. If they were going to pay someone mid-40M who only shows up for 50-60 games a season, I'd rather have OG. I get that wasn't the choice. This seems like the very definition of a "Mid-3" core to me, but we shall see.

I think it's time to adjust our expectations. No more "play-in for what". This team with all the offensive fire power, will be fun to watch, even if it peaks at 4th seed.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but he missed ~20 games near the end of one season due to a blood clot while he was on pace to play ~70 games in the shortened 19/20 and 20/21 seasons. Ingram certainly isn't the beacon of health, but he's also not THAT injury-prone of a player that he's not worth taking a flier on for pretty much nothing but a middling first.

This trade was a steal for us we essentially gave up two insignificant pieces in Brown and Olynyk, plus a first-round pick that will likely land in the 20s.

The only downside is that it disrupts the tank, but realistically, the team’s talent level was already too high to finish in the bottom five. My guess is we’ll stealth tank by resting one or two players here and there, aim for a bottom-10 finish, take our lottery odds from there, and gear up for next season.

All we need is to land Malauch. And that’s bottom 8. He doesn’t go past 8

I don't care about the players we gave up. I think the most valuable asset we gave up was the Indy 1st. People are using weird excuses like "omg, you think the Indy pick will turn out to be better than Ingram? That's dumb!".

I care about young, controllable rookie contracts. I am very risk seeking. I prefer a long shot in the lottery than an established player when we are a lotto bound team. Had we been a contender (e.g., when we traded for Leonard), I would not be concerned about trading away a pick. But we have a horrible record. We have no business giving up picks.

Anyway, I hope Ingram stays healthy with us. Knowing our luck Siakim and Halli are going to go down with season ending injuries early next season and NO will get a great pick (which they will mess up, but Masai wouldn't have...).

I agree somewhat, but the Raptors have a decent core already. They don't want to tank for too long, and I think they may not see a lot of value in the 2026 draft. They aren't that far away from competing. Poeltl + Barnes + Ingram + Quickley is a pretty damn good starting lineup and add Dick, Barrett, 2025 1st as starters/ rotation pieces and you have a team with one good other bench piece that can compete as a top 10/12 team. (Good chance one of Walter, Mogbo, Shead becomes that other piece, but they also have the ability to add another with MLE)

By the 2026 draft... where are they going to find roster spots for 5 more rookies between the 25 and 26 drafts? Unless most of the guys just drafted just wash out of any possibility of being NBA players by then.

Totally different scenarios. The cost was much too steep for poetl. Almost non existent for ingram. You don't see the difference?

The cost of one of the better 9th picks was the 8th pick Rob Dillingham a 6'3 guard who's last game posted a 3-3-3 and -2. I like Rob Dillingham and think he has a chance to have a decent career but we needed a center more.

We are not accumulating "assets" if the "assets" are all slightly overpaid or well overpaid if they turn out injury prone.

Something around 30-35M is fine. 40M and over is Lavine territory

What makes this pretty scary is we are going to add a lottery pick to this team. If that pick hits our team is going to be very talented and deep.

And young, depends in if we'd resign boucher, if not, right now our average age is like 24.

I also like how SB, RB and BI kinda operate and different zones.

BI is midrange, catch and shoot but good finisher.
RB is catch and shoot or pure slasher.
SB is more mid range and inside scoring.

Plus BI over Dick on defence is a huge upgrade, even if BI isn't like a lockdown.
