Yeah I don't love Ingram, not excited about the deal....

But man the over reactions are nuts.

this is precisely how I feel. In fact I don't even think Ingram is a good fit right now, but youre getting him cheap and you can make trades in the future to ensure the pieces fit together. We are honestly getting him quite cheap, I hope the re-up on the deal is mid 30's but that maybe hoping for too much

Yeah very meh about this deal. Could work but could end being the Colangelo trading for Gay deal (as in doesn’t change anything).

We have Barnes, Ingram, RJ, Quickley, Barrett, Dick who can all be used during crunch time lol. We’re not going have to rely on one guy.

RJ, BI, IQ don't complement each other on offense

Remove RJ and the fit is much better

My guess is it goes late 30s and ends mid 40s? a little cheaper than the Siakam deal.

Who cares. Right now it’s just about asset accumulation and positioning ourselves for a better player thru trade down the road. With this new cap structure there will be a lot of turnover throughout the league. Just gotta put ourselves in a position to succeed.

I have questions about “asset accumulation”. Seemingly there was very little market for Ingram because of his salary expectations. So we’re going to pay this guy that no one really wanted and all of a sudden he’s going to be an “asset”?

I have salary concerns too, but the fact that they included Kelly in the trade to keep themselves out of the tax and the fact that Scottie is top dog makes me believe that there’s term at play and that Ingram gets less than Scottie. That’s all tbd though.

Whether you’d like the raptors to tank or only make moves that keep us ‘competitive’, the ultimate objective is always to accumulate talent and to optimize on how we do that. We just turned an expiring bruce brown, an old Olynyk, and a middling 1st rder into a talented player that has shown to be effective in certain roles.

I’ve been on the tank train this season. But this move (if the management can continue the stealth tank) can’t be seen as a negative in light of where we are and with hopes of competing meaningfully soon.

We go into next season with this roster healthy + a top 10 pick and hopefully internal growth with dick, jakobe, shead. How is that not something to look forward to?

Who says the Tank is over.... I suspect we're already in agreement about extension when trading him.
I don't think a small stretch of 6-7 wins is going to change the tank for this season. IMO, there is no point in making a PO push.
We should just try and get the best pick possible and see what summer has for us to offer.

I wouldn’t have done this deal.

Giving up a 1st rounder for an expiring contract (in a tank year) and maybe continuing to sit him doesn’t sound great. He is not signed to next year period. I don’t care if there was “good initial extension talks”. Bro could come here and be depressed in the winter time and say ‘imma take my talents to the south’

You would actually be surprised how many players have Toronto in their top list. It hasn’t materialized into them wanting to come play here, but a lot of stars have put Toronto as a top 3 place to play. I’m not sure how our recent change in the type of fans who go to games with recent prices changes that though lol

the timeline didn't fit bt also the fit on the court with Siakam and Scottie was really weird. I see the same isse with Ingram, he has skill overlap with Scottie, both players like handling the ball.

We are not accumulating "assets" if the "assets" are all slightly overpaid or well overpaid if they turn out injury prone.

So the plan is to sit him out the majority of games, not get a good look at him with the rest of the team and then re-sign him for big money without really knowing how he fits on the team? This is an awful plan.
