Welcome Quentin Grimes!
A younger albeit smallish shooter. Hopefully a younger version of EG?

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
Seems like a good trade. Caleb was fine, but the Sixers need capable guards more than they need Martin's skillset (they need both, mind you...), and they got younger and cheaper in the process.

seems like they are either pivoting to Maxey's timeline or trying to create the space to re-sign Yabusele. Either way is solid in my book.

Nice move by Daryl. Still think we need a shake-up in the FO this summer.

Seems like a good passer too, will work well with Maxey on the backcourt, and we cant put Gordon on the bench as the 3rd guard. Lets hope Lowry and Jackson wont see the court anymore

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
I really like this trade.
I’ve been mentioning Grayson Allen as a top target, and I see Quentin Grimes as a similar player—both are 3&D shooting guards who are knockdown shooters. This type of guard is crucial for us because it brings stability to the wing positions, reducing our reliance on Caleb Martin and Oubre’s inconsistent shooting.
This also aligns with Justin Edwards’ emergence as a two-way wing, which makes even more sense now. A lot of this move is influenced by Yabu and Edwards’ development this season, and from what I’ve read, it also helps us re-sign Yabu in the offseason.
A starting 5 of Maxey, Grimes, George, Yabu, and Embiid gives us great spacing, while Oubre fits naturally as a sixth man. Edwards then provides the wing depth to replace Caleb, making this a well-balanced roster.

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
Grimes has been trying to break out as more than just a 3&D player since his time with the Knicks and again recently when Luka was out. But for some reason, both teams never gave him that opportunity.
He fits the JJ Redick and Seth Curry mold as an offensive player, and I expect him to thrive alongside Embiid. Hopefully, we’re getting a JJ or Seth with better defense.

My guess is save tax dollars while working to free up money for Yabusele. The only commitment that moves to Maxey’s timeline is trading PG.
Embiid and George make over $100 million. Having them both on the roster means we are still going all-in to win with them. If Morey decided we can’t win a title this year or next, then why keep George? You could keep Embiid and shift to a younger cast, but you can’t have two often-injured, back half of their prime guys taking up 2/3 of your cap and still build around Maxey.

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
I just can’t see us trading Paul George unless we get a package similar to what the Lakers got for Anthony Davis—it has to be a home run deal. There’s no point in making a high-risk trade where we’re banking on someone like Kuminga to exceed expectations and replace PG.

Good trade from what I can tell.
He's also played in 47 games this season. An attribute that is rare for this sixers team.

PG was Moreys target. Caleb was avail and willing. It was mentioned that Makonon fell thru and this was back up.

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
Nice trade and all the more if it helps us keep Yabu. Dallas thinks they are going to the Finals with AD and wanted the Celtic Killer, they definitely have high hopes and are going all in on the next couple of years. Drummond and Gordon next, please. A PG trade would be great, but is more pipe dream at this point.

Also getting ready to duck the tax again. Win win win.

Love this move by Morey. Getting a good 3 & D guard and just ecstatic to not have a old guard.

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
I know hes a shooter but does anyone know if he has any on ball ability to compliment Maxey?
Like bringing the ball up when Maxey is being denyed or even making a play with the ball if he's open?

He was very 3pt heavy even in college and didn't put up much in the way of assists. That said, some people think he can be more than a spot-up shooter:

Oftentimes, Grimes is asked to come off the bench where he can help run the second unit with his underrated ball handling and scoring capabilities.
But they traded him even after trading their most ball-dominant player, so I wouldn't expect all that much on-ball ability from him.

I think people underrate the tax stuff and the GM’s role managing ownership in general. It’d obviously be best to have someone like Ballmer who doesn’t care at all about $ but most owners are gonna get salty paying a big tax bill for a .500 first exit season, and it is a factor to keep them on board with spending big when opportunity is big. This year ain’t our year so let ownership know we won’t pay like it is, and we can try again next year with a good plan.

Re: Welcome Quentin Grimes!
Sixers know they are cooked with the PG contract for the next few years. These trades aren't about winning - they know they can't win, so they might as well save money.
