I think this is kind of like an old money and new money thing. I wouldn’t say I think SGA is better than Jokic or anything. But the ones who say he’s not close are relying on reflexes and opinions rather than the stats and analytics and results on the court.

There has always been a 1-2 year lag time on giving workman like superstars credit they deserve. Even happened with Jokic who wasn’t a star day 1 but had sort of a cult following. Yet these same people are so quick to prematurely crown exciting athletic, loud mouth ones like Anthony Edwards for some reason lol. Last year half the board was basically saying the league was Edwards’.

I have the two basically even right now.

Jokic triple double against the depleted Pelicans and Shai dropping 50 on the woeful Suns and Jazz isn’t enough to sway me right now.

Both kill defenses in very different ways so it’s hard to say one approach is better than the other.

SGA is now heavily favored to win the award.

Chet's coming back tomorrow, and he'll get his touches for sure. Shai will also want to incorporate him to the squad.

So I'm once again thinking there's huge value in betting Jokic for the award. Sadly, there are no bet options for the MVP in my country.

It will be a close contested race up until Denver and OKCs back to back games against one another in March.

I think its dumb to base it off those two games alone, but OKC will likely beat Denver back to back because they are simply a nightmare match-up for Denver. Sga and Jokic will both put up stats but the optics from OKC winning both games will make popular opinion sway even more in SGAs favor

Not sure man, Chet is glass... he cant handle the heat and volume, so will probably take time to get back into 15 + shots territory. I just worry this guy doesnt understand that he needs more mass.

No GM in the league, for one season, is taking any player not named Jokic to lead their team.

If it weren't for Jokic, SGA would be running away with MVP. But 30/12/10 on 57/46/82 is just downright absurd, Jokic is straight out of a video game.

What’s crazy to me is that he isn’t even trying. He racked up 9 assists in a single quarter today and it was the most ridiculously easy offense I’ve ever seen. Just lay-ups after lay-ups. I really wonder if the guy can literally see a second or two into the future.

Jokic is really on a tier by himself on offense. Denver has put him in rotation with a bunch of third stringers to try to hold together the bench and cause Murray and AG are constantly out of the lineup and his on-court ORTG is still a ridiculous 128. Shai’s at 123 for reference.

Against the Pelicans twice, Charlotte, a freefalling Orlando and an Embiid-less Philly. Before that they got blown out by both NY and Minnesota, and lost in Chicago.

They have no margin for error so need to put these kinds of teams away, and Jokic is clearly the best player on the planet having his best season, but they need a couple of statement wins for his MVP case. The back to back against OKC is massive.

Need to see Denver beat a few good teams before I can put Jokic over SGA for MVP. It’s nit picking but necessary in a close race

Jokic is at 30/13/10 on 57/46/81.

4th in steals.

1st all-time in PER.

2nd all-time in WS/48.

1st all-time in BPM.

He should be sitting on four MVP's in a row --- and he's having the best season of his career.

I've seen Jokic make an "awww, mannn" disappointed face for something that was happening on an area of the court that he never even looked at. He just knew, "If everything within my vision is going this way, then that must be happening where I'm not looking." Or maybe he took a mental snapshot and then recognized how the play had developed once he stopped looking. Anyway, I've watched most of his games since roughly 2020, and I still feel like I've scratched the surface of how he sees the game. A once-in-a-lifetime player.

yeah, he doesn't care at all. SGA is ahead atm because of the gap in team wins, but we saw SGA vs. the Suns checking back into the game in the 4th up 25 points just so he could get his 50, Jokic just doesn't care at all. he could average 35 and 15 assists if he wanted, easily. he's also mainly boxing out lately and just letting everybody else rebound. he might be the GOAT teammate, players must love playing next to this dude

but that ofc has nothing to do with the MVP race, you get votes on what you're doing not what you could've been doing

p.s Denver is still a much weaker and considerably less stacked team than most of the contenders, they're just not good enough. lately they haven't been healthy either, took a long while for AG to come back and he isn't really himself yet, Watson went down for at least a month, Russ has been injured and Murray sat the Magic game as well and doesn't look quite right when he is playing

Denver sat pat at the deadline while contenders got even better..best team in the East picked up Hunter for a bag of chips..now imagine Hunter on the Nuggets :)

Jokic is so damn good he can dissect mediocre by himself and he's shown that time and time again, remember that 2022 G-league squad he carried to near 50 win? but once they matchup with teams that have very few holes in their lineups (if any), that's just not enough, basketall is a team sport and we've seen that lately when they matched up with the Knicks, Wolves etc.

Gap between SGA and Jokic basically depends on how much you weigh this season vs previous seasons
