Likely not obviously but by 2031 we'll very likely be the worst team in basketball. We should get more back for that than Cam Johnson. That's thinking way too small with, essentially, our final poker chip.

Well first, hes still 28. Giannis is 30 so thats the timeline, right?

Second, im not sure what the wildest dream is for one unprotected pick but recall it took a 1.24, two unprotected firsts, and two pick swaps to get Jrue Holiday. And that was before Giannis re signed in Milwaukee so those unprotected picks had big potential value.

From that perspective, i think Cam for two late firsts and we pocket the third for something else is a very solid move.

He's 28 for just like, 30 more days but whatever. I'm not paying the small market premium tax for another guy who's reached his ceiling as a "good starter on a contender for the next 2-3 years", and I love Cam Johnson. It's the Antawn Jamison Cavs move.

Would be very VERY on brand. That’s our wheelhouse. Good players a few seasons too late.

Nope, Sabonis has really adjusted his game around the edges the last 2 years to change from empty stats to super productive winning basketball. Dame remains an empty stats scorer. Sabonis shots the 3 now too.

Also, why is everyone so concerned about the '31 first round pick? We'll recoup a boat load of 1st rounders when we eventually trade Dame and Giannis.

Because we will probably suck and that pick will be likely be Top 10?
ETA: For the record, i think it would be a horrible move to trade it for the organization, but I'm totally on-board of going all in and then I will take a decade long-break of NBA once we trade Giannis.

Why do you think we will suck in 30-31?

We'll have a real coach by then, Doc will be retired/fired.
Giannis will be 36. For comparison Lebron averaged 30/8/6 at age 36.
I don't see Giannis ever wanting to leave.

Marcus Smart they better be attaching legitimate assets to him if we're taking on rest of his contract. He's on the books for $21 million next year. He's a shell of what he used to be, very Khris like in that his body isn't holding up anymore.

Bogdanovic would be fine in a vacuum I guess if it's for cheap but I wouldn't give up very much for him either. We kind of have his archetype covered at the moment i'm not really sure where he fits.

EasyE31 wrote:Cam Johnson is a superior player to Deandre Hunter but post the Kuzma move I think Hunter makes more sense as Cam and Kuzma are sort of duplicative. We still really need a good switchable wing defender which Hunter is. Hunter allows you to put AJAX away and start Dame/Green/Hunter/Giannis/Brook with Kuz as your 6th man off the bench. Also gives you the flexibility of playing Hunter/Kuz/Giannis lineups whereas I'm not sure you get away with Johnson/Kuz/Giannis as well defensively.

Johnson is better than Hunter in every way, including defensively.

Or you can let people have their reactions that don't affect you. "you can go be a fan of the Hornets or Wizards" sounds just as emotionally immature as anything anyone here posted.

I actually like Cam Johnson, but he's a really poor rebounder at either forward position, and his rep is that he's too slow to play SF; slotting him in at PF makes the issue worse. I don't see how he fits in well for our team outside of hit shooting. I just don't think he meshes with what we need.

I think Cam Johnson is a better player, but for this team Hunter is a better fit.

Yeah he was old when he came into the league, but we'd have him locked up for 2 more years after this one at a relative bargain rate. No reason to think those wouldn't be effective years.

Okay so what range of players are the worst you would consider using the 31 1st on? Gimme some names

Something like this would be the perfect way to finish this deadline. Bobby & Pat plus the 31 first for Hunter makes perfect sense.

1) Opens a spot to sign Rollins
2) Adds the wing defender we desperately need
3) Moves Kuz into the 6th man role where he can be a primary scorer
4) Leans the team into more small ball lineups with Hunter/Kuz/Giannis all playing together which is the only we are going to compete with Boston or NY

Updated to make legal

MIL Hunter/Santos

GSW Bobby

ATL-Payton/Pat/Marjon/GSW 2nds/ MLW 2031 first

Don't know if we can off load Marjon somewhere for cash because I don't think ATL can cut 2 guys.

Maybe I'm missing something but I think now that we are under the 2nd apron and can aggregate salary Bobby & Pat for Hunter is legal on its own.
Correct but I doubt ATL values Bobby. Would rather have Payton's expiring.

If that's what happens, whatever they send, Bucks can beat that package. Just a matter of if they want to.

Expiring salary, Ajax, '31, two seconds, Bobby.

Cavs have Levert and Okoro, no expirings, a whole bunch of seconds and their 30 and 31 picks...
