Picks here are important, but I like this deal more than the Richards and Mark trades we have made.

fantastic trade. the players are completely irrelevant, and we're getting a 15-20th pick for eating Nurkic next year, a year in which we are probably just going to need a stopgap center

EDIT: probably a high 20s pick... it's gonna be the worst of Orlando/Memphis/Phoenix/Washington
investigate Adam Silver

Getting an actual 1st for Cody and some cap space is good. Hes a low upside player and the value was too good to pass up. Id feel great about it if I wasn't so bummed about the Mark Williams trade.

does this clear the roster to both absorb dalton/cam and sign moose to regular deal? or do we still need to cut someone?

also... HUGE love to cody. when healthy, he was a treasure. hope he can play in phoenix in playoffs.

The Hornets are receiving the 2026 least favorable first of Phoenix, Washington (if 1-8), Orlando and Memphis.

The Suns are receiving the 2026 least favorable Golden St. or Denver second.

Phoenix is allowed to trade the 2026 first because they acquired a 2025 and 2027 first in a prior trade.

That 1st could end up really low. I don't have high hopes for Phoenix, but Orlando and Memphis should both be quite good next season. This pick will very likely be in the 20-25 range. Its still a good return for Cody Martin.

Nurkic deal is bad, but this summer he will be an expiring. Not that it will have value but if the Hornets did ever decide to trade for a larger salary then moving him to help match salaries is a nice tool.

Hornets saving Suns a ton of money in the lux tax. I bet a ton of teams are pissed it is like 120 million in savings for them over the next 2 years.

getting another 1st in this deal makes me care even less about the pick from the Lakers. Could have just gotten an extra pick for Cody and kept Mark.

So far this year we have downgraded 3 position groups and not done really anything to show for it within Melo's current contract.

They're punting deep into like 2030 before respectability unless they're planning a consolidation trade between now and the draft.

Not sure why the trade needs to be between now and the draft, but I highly doubt they are getting all these firsts just so they can actually have a full team of guys on their rookie contracts. I'm sure they'll be consolidated as part of a trade, and it makes a ton of sense to wait to not do that in effectively a lost season with a marquee upcoming draft.

Overall I can't complain about this trade. Martin and Micic aren't worth 1sts by themselves, so we get one for taking on Nurkic who happens to fill a need too.

Oh. I didn't see it.

RealGM has been slower than Nurkic in concrete boots.
