Kings got LaRavia…

Post#1 » by SNPA » Thu Feb 6, 2025 11:19 pm

….for Len/Jones/2nd. It’s somehow tied to the Smart deal.

Monte actual got a wing. Will wonders never cease. He addressed size, he didn’t address athleticism though.

If this is real?

Love it for Sac. Hate it for Memphis.

Really like this for the Kings. Wanted Detroit to scoop up Big Memphis.

Jake looks a little sneaky with the athleticism. And was showing good defensive metrics.

Can we hear from some Memphis fans?

Yeah read a great article from one of the FB groups.

His metrics are actually pretty incredible this year.

Love this move. Adding another wing can never hurt. Allows buy out market opportunity as well.

Enjoyed Len and what he was for us on a side.

I never remember in these declines option situations, honestly*

They can use their MLE on him right? Don’t see why they would not be but know there’s some strict restriction on the next salary..

Yeah, it does make sense for the league to set the rule to not allow teams to decline the third year and offer the player a larger deal using cap space/ntmle. Didn’t pay attention to cap before, but assume that’s what the rule is for? Promising 2nd year, decline option for 3rd year lock up on MLE? Player union loses…

But even as a rental, I love it for Sac. A 2nd for a rental that can play 20 mpg at a position of need..

And maybe he takes a 1+1PO to re-establish bird rights and get a long term deal in Sac? Very much doubt that but it’s possible.

With the declined option this is about all we could expect. Now that Memphis is full health he was very likely out of our playoff rotation. So we decided to get what value we could instead of keeping him for emergency depth. I could for sure see him in a 20+ minute role for Sac, he has become a plus defender and shots the ball well enough to stay on the court. I think there is a 50/50 chance Sac can convince to stay on his declined option amount.

They have non qualified Bird Rights, so they can sign him to a new contract up to what his 4th year option would have been without having to use an exception. So, they can sign him up to $5.163m and still maintain their MLE.

But also, is Jake LaRavia likely to get more than $5m next year in free agency?

Jake is solid, has good size and hustles really well. He was our 13th man whose option we declined. I would’ve preferred keeping him but we did right by him sending him to a place where he will be able to play.

he is shooting quite well this year w/ good defensive metrics... he would be a lock to have his option exercised on hindsight so yes i would offer him more than 5 mil for sure.

Maybe. But he also shot poorly for 2 years. We saw Jalen Smirh have a huge half year in Indy, worried he’d get larger offers, and ended up taking the Indy offer. :dontknow:

Ill say a guy in his situation is probably looking at situation over dollar value. I'd imagine he'd turn down nominal difference in money for a situation that will allow him to showcase himself to earn a bigger contract in the future.

Monte must be thinking he can hook him on playing time and get him to sign a 1+1 so he has 10mil guaranteed if he gets hurt next year, then he can opt out with Bird rights I believe. That’s actually not a bad path for him unless he gets a multiple year deal noticeably over 5 per (he’d have to evaluate playing time though). In Sac, he is going to play.

I think SAC got a solid depth/role player for this season and did well. Jake has played very well for us this year and SAC should love having him. I wish him nothing but the best.

And that's not a bad idea SNPA unless he is worried he needs to cash in big this offseason on a longer/bigger deal.
