No wonder it seems like this place has 25% of the traffic it used to, it doesn't even work properly.

Re: ** Official 2025 Trade Deadline Thread **
As stated earlier on paper these moves are fine if not exactly what I want. Got younger (and apparently healthier) in spots, added some picks albeit seconds, and didn't use up the future assets for a lateral move.
But I swear I have said similar **** every single deadline lol. Team shouldn't be wasting money but we have also always dodged the tax....and while yeah we def should in a down year...it still feels icky yknow? The **** part is that Nurse will still probably play Lowry and Gordon over Butler and Grimes anyway lol. This season is yet another can kicking season in which we hope that WE the cursed as **** franchise can pull a Miami Heat or lockout Knicks fluke run out of our ass...and even the most optimistic of us don't believe that lol. The Bulls and Hawks will disintegrate after their **** deadlines, Heat might fall off and the Magic did nothing, so we will probably be in the thick of it regardless. Its just meh overall. can't wait until we back into the play off, take a game from the Cavs or Celtics, get hype before Biid gets another new medical anomaly and we lose the series lol.
AGAIN IDK what I would have done differently, what was available, or none of that....but yeah ever deadline has left me feeling the same melancholy of we really don't have a chance so who cares.

NBA rosters are primarily about your top two or three players, and none of that changed this week. However, developing solid bench pieces that we can keep at a fair price is important.
The problem is, if you develop them, they are hard to re-sign at a good price. If the price is cheap enough, I would bet on some of these bench guys early and try to lock them up below market value.

Re: ** Official 2025 Trade Deadline Thread **
all things considered, I'm okay with this deadline.
I understand both the need to get under the tax on a year where you don't think you have a championship, as well as the impossibility of moving PG at this time.
That said, I like moving Martin for Grimes, and I was a Jared Butler fan in the draft, picking up the seconds is nice.
I would have liked to move Drummond, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay 2nds to do it.
I hope we sign Edwards/Butler to 4 year Hinkie deals, and then look to sign a G-league big to a two way, there has to be a rebounding/shot blocker making his mark down there that we could give a test drive.

I assume Jayden Springer can’t play, but he is only 22 and the Sixers basically dumped him in a cap clearing move to pursue max cap space. Report has the Rockets releasing him. I wonder if we will have interested.
My guess is no. We have a lot of guards and he hasn’t shown much to this point. He is a great defender, but being a back-to-back deadline salary dump isn’t a great sign of untapped potential.

If they re-sign Grimes and Yabusele long term, and get Edwards and Butler on multi year cheap deals, it was a good deadline.
They still need to flip Embiid in the offseason.

I expect them to try to sign Edwards to a multi-year minimum deal. He might bet on himself and not take it.
For Grimes, I don't think he can be extended now. As long as he's solid, I expect them to give him the qualifying offer (should be about $6.5M) if he won't agree to a cheap multi-year deal before exploring his options. I do think he might be an RFA target for other teams, but Philly should be in good position to match if we can move Drummond (I assume he'll pick up his option).
Butler will likely be converted to a standard contract for the remainder of the year (I think he's used up most of his NBA games on the two-way). He's probably not going to be an RFA target for other teams to poach.

So a question for people who are good with Cap rules...
With us now under the tax, is it possible for us to keep Grimes and Yabuselle next season? Do we have any kind of 'rights' to Grimes? Assuming we don't trade George, and keep edwards/butler on small deals
Maxey/McCain/Butler
Grimes/Edwards/Gordon
George/Oubre/Council
Yabuselle/Bona/min
Embiid/Drummond/min

Re: ** Official 2025 Trade Deadline Thread **
This deadline in a vacuum isn't really as disappointing as the fact that what they did this deadline indicates that next season is just going to be much of the same as this season. Same core roster, same coach, same GM, maybe swap a role player or two in and out. And that's your 2025-26 Sixers. Not sure how that could remotely interest anyone. What's the sell to the fan base for next season?
What's most disappointing about the deadline is this season isn't even over yet and I already know in February 2025 that there's going to be zero reason to tune into next season's Sixers.

I am too. The dreaded term “next year” comes to mind, but knowing what we have in McCain, Edwards, and Yabu makes me incredibly excited for the top 7-8 rotation next year. It’s a rare moment of depth and top end talent. Unfortunate health will always be an issue and I’ll have no issue moving on from PG this off-season if something intriguing comes along (like Durant).

While I see where you are coming from, I think the difference is, if we have the same poor start, I think Embiid and PG are significant options to move at that point. And *if* they are healthy, we are in a good spot.

I wrote out the options in the '24/'25 Season thread. From what I understand, they can, but would need Oubre, Drummond, and Gordon to decline their player options.Foshan wrote:So a question for people who are good with Cap rules...

Maxey/McCain/Butler
Grimes/Edwards/Gordon
George/Oubre/Council
Yabuselle/Bona/min
Embiid/Drummond/min
Sixers could then sign Yabusele with the room exception. Sign Oubre using birds rights. And make a qualifying offer to Grimes or whatever.
Or they can operate as an over the cap team if Drummond or Gordon pick up their option, and sign Yabusele to the NTMLE. They could still sign Grimes but would be hard capped at the first apron. They probably would not to be able to keep Oubre in this case.
From what I understand, if Oubre declines his PO, Sixers can offer him $14M whereas if Drummond or Gordon decline their then they can only get the vet minimums which they probably won't want. I'm guessing those reports of the market heating up for Gordon and Drummond was Morey trying to get off their contracts which would have made next free agency a lot easier.

AFAIK, we should have full Bird rights for Grimes. I'm currently projecting them to have $19-20M under the 1st apron, meaning they'd have access to the non-tax MLE (up to $14.1M) for Yabu. But then they can't exceed the 1st apron all season, so Yabu+Grimes can't be too much combined.
If they can move Drummond and/or Gordon, they'd gain some additional flexibility. Depending on the Grimes contract especially, they might even be able to take back salary. Best case scenario as I see it without moving a big contract:
Embiid/George/Maxey/Oubre/McCain/Council/Bona on current contracts - $161.8M
Yabu + free agent using NTMLE - $14.1M
Grimes RFA deal - $7M (guess)
Trade acquisition (Drummond + picks) - $6.2M
Butler/Edwards/2nd round pick on min deals - $5.6M
Total - $194.7M
1st apron space - $1.2M

Marcus Smart going to the Washington Bullets is interesting. Is he going there to watch his career die? Are they buying him out? I'm by no means a Marcus Smart fan. I don't think he's all that good unless he's playing against us.

How about those Grizzlies?
Paid two 1sts for Smart, which helped Boston get Jrue and Porzingis, then a year and a half later paid another 1st to dump Smart.
Just awful work by Memphis.
