My read is that Lakers are going in on efficient offense with great rebounding. Similar to what Cavs did with Lebron-Love-TT in 2015-2018.

Just being great at rebounding is a form of defense, an OREB is as good as a steal and a DREB ends an opponent possession. So I think this team will still have a middle of the range D-rating.

Mark’s defense is not versatile at all, he can only really drop, and he has high hips. Doesn’t have much core or leg strength, gets pushed around. This is not a Jokic stopper.

He does have potential - real potential - on that end, with an insane 9’9” standing reach and great mobility at times. I think he will be good but not this year. Needs a few offseasons and strength training blocks.

He will feast on lobs and offensive boards. Amazing play finisher. Yall got a great player. I’m gonna cry myself to sleep

He’s an interesting player when looking at his FT shooting and passing instincts as he could develop further as an offensive player.

The defense is a concern because aside from what you mentioned, he doesn’t have good defensive instincts and is slow to react to rotations, i.e., the death knell for all below average defensive bigs in the pace and space era. Basically, there isn’t a single good/plus defender relative to position big who starts off with negative instincts regardless of physical tools. That is worrisome, BUT he’s interesting in the sense that he’s not that bad when most negative defensive bigs are glaringly bad in the pace and space era. He seems coachable and the hope could be that the Hornets weren’t close to winning and would not be focusing on micro-winning player development while the Lakers would. Might be a reach in that sense.

Lakers can't really expand the deal this way, but move assets from one deal to another and do a separate with Charlotte trading Maxi for Okogie.

Not even sure if Thybulle is legal. He makes 25k more. I know you cant take more in if above 1st apron, but I read someone once say you can take 250k more, is that true?

So potenially better of keeping him or getting under 1st apron if you get some intel about some buyouts
