If somebody hiring for a job doesn't have their glasses on, maybe they'll hire one of the guys as a software engineer.

That's a huge loss

I'm gonna be honest - moves like this rarely matter other than to the recruiting industry guys. Remember Saeed Khalif?

I'd like to have good staff, but we'll just hire a new rising star.

Huge news for Badgers prospects next year. I’m actually bullish on the team despite the schedule.

If you're being an optimist and I don't know, I might be, you can make the case that because of the Badgers schedule they've got one of the higher ceilings in the sport. On paper it's insanely tough, but they're also going to have chances to massively bump their rankings with some upsets.

I dunno. I like that they start with two home games against group of fives. We'll get an idea in those games.

The DL and pass rush remain huge question mark. But we now have a gaggle of 300+ lb dudes on the line. If 3 or 4 of them can be adequate run stuffer/block eaters and even one can get inside pressure, it’ll make a huge difference. We just didn’t have the bodies in the line last year.

Edit: listened to the Locked on pod on my way in to work. They happened to be talking about this and had a similar optimism. So now, I’m rethinking my take.

Secondary depth also an issue, but I kind of trust the starters there.

A lot of athletic upside at LB. Gotta stay healthy and make it all mesh.

I'm bullish on the team so long as they can keep their QB healthy this year finally...but they aren't winning more than 7 games unless some other teams take nosedives. I guess I could see 8.

I’d rephrase bullish as “look competent” and “win games they should”.

I don’t think they’re going to the playoff, but will take a big step in the right direction.

If they win 8 games they're probably one of the top 12 teams in the country but will not make the playoff.

Na I think the actual end result might be enrollment in class will be optional. Basically a real minor league with only a loose affiliation to the university.

Oof, I think this is pretty far off if we ever get there. You may be right, but I think there will be a lot of tooth-and-nail fighting to preserve the sense of it actually being college football.

I do hope that breaking off football (and maybe basketball, though I'm a little dubious there) from all other sports happens sooner rather than later. I think next five years is plausible.

It's interesting...I generally try to view this from a lens of, "there is a reason for it"

People used to get really mad when Gard would get the annual extension for another year so that he was under contract for 4-5 years for recruiting purposes, etc. and you just know that if you're firing a guy that was your price of doing business. That's just how this stuff generally goes.

Up to 7 years is interesting. What was he at before? I think it was through 2030? I guess the idea is you have a bit more of a grip on him if he does well in the next 2 seasons so that he doesn't bolt?

He was initially signed to a 7 year contract so I think this is keeping him in line with that
