Their personalities don’t exactly align, and there’s an old NBA theory that having two “knuckleheads” on the same team just doesn’t work.

Buttler could scuttle their already sinking ship.

With that draft pick, we could have the number one overall pick in 2027.

We are not winning a championship with Tyler Herro as our #1 option on offense. Let's pump the brakes and be realistic.

Definitely not any kind of prediction or expectation. Just think its a possibility, where before this season I would have thought the idea crazy.

And it would still have to be somewhat of an ensemble situation. Sort of like the Celtics last year, where Tatum/Brown and even Derrick White took turns being the most important guy on any given night.

Just saying though, in a league where the 3-point shot gets more valuable every season, unless rule changes are made to reel that back, it definitely favors Tyler. He is shooting like prime Steph. For comparison's sake, Stephs' prime saw him shooting around 11 3's a night at 40-44%. Tyler right now is at 10 a game at 39% (was over 40 until his recent slump). And its not just numbers, watching the games he takes the kind of 3's Steph and prime Dame used to take.

My view is that both Herro and Bam are 1.5s. Not 1s but better than 2s. With the new CBA restrictions, teams will need to be more egalitarian financially and, as a result, on the court. I think our core with the young players we have developing can absolutely win a title within the next 5 years. It'd look closer to a Spurs-like title toward the end of Duncan's career, rather than the heliocentric style of superstars and scrubs.

Fair take, I also think with the emphasis on the 3-point shot in the modern game, you're going to see more and more of these ensemble type casts winning championships. At this point it feels like the only solo star player who can swing a series is Joker, and he's still a guy who relies on the 3 for a lot of his offense.

Anthony Edwards was supposed to be the next "guy", and he could still be that, but Minnesota's been up and down this year and Ant has fallen in love with the 3 himself. He's hitting them at a blistering rate (42% on same volume as Herro) so its working for now, but I still think it takes away from the unique talents he can bring to a team. But you still can't argue with that sort of efficiency.

It may be that until the league does something, the era of the Jordan/LeBron ultra high usage type star leading teams to championships may just be gone for now.

Need to transfer to the cloud. AWS is quite cheap and they can afford it.

Would've been fine with it if he just came out and said it was because of the money. But you start saying chit about the new offense being the reason why and it undermines what we're trying to do, and could have potentially hurt our young guys' confidence (good thing Herro appears to have been immune to the bullchit).

Duncan pretty much confirms players still got along with Jimmy, this was a Jimmy/Riley/money thing. Also apparently Love works really hard on his trolling.

Tim_Hardawayy wrote:Call me crazy but as long as the league continues to trend towards spamming 3's, as much as I hate that style, I think Tyler can continue to rise and potentially be a top 10 guy, which is about the minimum you need for a star to lead you to a championship unless its a fluke year like the 04 Pistons. I think in any other era, as nice as Herro's development has been, he peaks as a top 25-30 guy who is occasionally an all-star and can either be a nice #2 or a great 6th man. But in this era where the 3-point shot is everything, as a guy who can hit them at volume, at a high percentage, either spotting up or off the dribble in just about any situation... he's basically looking like Steph Curry, minus some passing I guess.

I gotta disagree there, I don’t think we’re winning anything with him as the 1st or 2nd best player on a team. He can be the 2nd best scorer sure but we need a true lead guy that can make winning plays on both ends and get his own offense at will when needed

He's definitely got to prove it in the playoffs. But the numbers and the eye test at least so far this year, look really good. And I would have called myself crazy if I said this before the season.

Also not saying he's there yet, or if he will ever get there. He basically has to make one more leap, and do it in the postseason, and the higher you go the harder it is to keep getting better. It'd be a complete homer take to just assume it happens. But I'm actually seeing the potential now, I didn't see it his first few years in the league.

I agree. The game against Detroit where he went on a steph curry run made me think this dude gotta chance at being a top 10 player. Also seeing the improvement in playmaking and finishing at the rim. He can get there. It's big a leap. I'd say 15 % chance he can figure it out and get there. But it's starts with the ball handling. If he can get those handles tight enough to be a primary ball handler then he can make the leap. But its more unlikely than not. He is 25, he has 1 - 2 years to do it. After 27, you generally don't see massive improvement.

Yeah I don't like that sort of stuff, only part about all this that kinda rubbed me the wrong way, if its about money say it don't play games. Reminds me of Riles saying about LeBron, smiling faces with hidden agendas.

That said I can respect wanting to get paid, but he went about it the wrong way. Expecting a player to show up for the regular season isn't too much to ask unless you are prime Shaq.

I can’t wait to get him in Miami after Bam and Spo recruit him. Now that’s a guy who can be a number 1 on a championship team as he continues to develop.

The wolves are mediocre because they made a horrible move in trading Towns for Randle.

I almost hate to keep making the Steph comparisons cause it feels like such a homer thing to do, but Steph was a late bloomer as well, he went from about where Tyler's at now to MVP the next season at 26.

Jimmy wanted to get paid and he got paid. Should have just swallowed the pride and traded him when we knew we weren’t going to pay him. Instead the FO tried to have it’s cake and eat it too. Sure Butler said all the right things at first but i hope the FO learned it’s lesson to think forward a bit more. All good we move into a new era.

I think he can get there for one reason, and it's the common thread among the game's greats - he's been known to have an insane work ethic from the beginning. It's also the reason why I've always believed in him, as long as he was able to stay healthy. Guys that REALLY put in the work (not just fake hustle IG 'workouts') will continue to get better.
