Denver/Bulls/Raptor off season

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Fri Feb 7, 2025 1:11 pm

DENVER
In: Agbaji/J.Smith
Out:Saric/Nnaji/FRP 31 (unpro)

They get 2 young guys who fit very well, to continue being a contender

BULLS
In:Nnaji/Denver 31
Out:J.Smith/FRP Blazers

At the beginning of his reorganization... he changes a selection protected by lottery for an unprotected one but with a lot of potential, Jokic
will be over 35 years old (probably at the end of his career)

RAPTORS
In:Saric/Blazers FRP
Out:Agbaji

you get a very good value, before paying

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the Portland pick lotto protected until 2028? I think Toronto takes a risk on it it convaying or uses it as trade bait in a different deal

That DEN package might be neutral at best, I don't think it would return 2 useful rotation pieces

If you are right, it is protected by lottery and then becomes 2 SRP... but the Blazers' trajectory is clearly upward and in theory they can only improve through youth and by choosing in the lottery... especially with some very worn out Western teams... I think it is a bet that I should take

So the Bulls trade who they would like to be their starting center after moving Vucevic, that imaginary PORT pick and get the guy DEN has been trying to dump for a year and a pick in the next decade. Stop, turn around and go home never going to happen.

The Spurs traded Dillingham (8) for a pick at 31 and the Jazz sent 3 FRPs for the Suns at 31...here we are talking about J.Smith...plus in 2031 Jokic will be 36/37 years old...I mean I understand that you don't like him, but there are some precedents

Have to admit I know nothing about those players other than their stats on basketball reference. I look at their defensive advanced stats and am not impressed, but then Nnaji's defensive stats are even worse and he's been locking dudes down since Malone finally let him play the 4.

So the question is, "can Smith and Agbaji defend?" If not, they Nugs should not trade their 1st rounder yet. They really need more defense, especially on the wings.

Toronto has found something with Agbaji he's going to be their sixth nan. With the Ingram deal I suspect to Toronto trying to compete next year. Trading for a heavily protected pick plus a guy in Saric is the opposite of that.

I don't like this for the Nuggets, and here is why.

1. Ochai Agbaji - talented young player, but I don't see him as having clearly bigger 2 way upside than Christian Braun, defensive upside than Payton Watson or offensive upside than Julian Strawther. If they bring another wing it would be vet clearly better than their young guys that doesn't need developement. And, considering how much they invested in them, I think they will stick to Braun, Watson, Strawther.

2. Denver needs exectly what Jalen Smith was in his 6 seasons in the NBA. 15 minutes per game backup big. But he is still 24, so if Bulls see him as their potential starter they will ask for more than his value for Denver could ever be and that is 15 minutes per game backup.

3. 2031 unprotected 1st is too valuable. Picks are NBA currency, but the moment you pick a player it losses it's value. 90% of players picked in lottery the last few years couldn't be traded for the same picks now. It was always like this. 2031 1st pick is very valuable because it can be used in trades in the next 7 years. I was all for using it to improve this years team, but past trade dedline Denver has a lot of time and ways to improve backup C spot for next year.
